The fact that this hotel is rated as 3.7 stars, putting it close to 4 stars, which according to Hotels.com means that this hotel surpasses the Hilton and Marriot. Not. So. I booked this hotel because it was considerably less than the conference hotel downtown--Hilton and Hyatt--and you do get what you pay for. The rooms were small and reminded me of […] my college dorm room. No bed bugs, so there's that. The hotel had a 'Shining'-esq quality--I was ready for the two girls to chase me down the hall or to see the elevators unleash a flood of blood. Yes, I'm being dramatic. But the hotel was just overall dirty. It's a mile from downtown, which I found to be a nice walk but you can't consider that convient by any sense of the imagination. If you are looking to be removed from society (and sometimes you are!) then you might like this place. The deck on the 9th floor was pretty nice, I'll admit. The staff was great. I really mean that, they are the whole reason for any stars for this place. They were young and hip and I can't figure out why there were working here, but they were polite and nice. The Astor bar was a little weird...but again, the staff made it. The whole experience was so strange, staying in that hotel. If The Astor did a deep clean of every room, upgrade the lighting in the rooms, and provide a free shuttle from the airport, I would move up this rating another star. Until then... 더 보기

Rooms smelled stale and musty. Rooms were freezing too.

Good location, clean enough for my wife and me, and the breakfast was also nice. Very inexpencive!

Very nice old building but the charm wore away quickly. The room was extremely hot throghout the night. The walls were paper thin so we heard every sound from the next room including there broken headboard which banged against our wall everytime they moved. Very nice hotel. Price was very reasonable,free continental breakfast was a nice "extra" if you are looking for a light yet satisfying bite to start off your day. Located in a quaint downtown neighborhood, and close to everything. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Rustic turn of the century look and feel made our experiance Quite enjoyable. I felt like i had gone back in time to a nicer more relaxing time. with the benifit of a few moderen day convenances like Wi Fi and a big flat screen cable TV. My wife and I had a Great valentines day get away.

How I wish I would've read the reviews here before booking! If I hadn't booked four rooms, I would've demanded a refund & went somewhere else upon check-in. Touted as "historic", which really means "outdated". The corridors are narrow and smell musty, there are cracks in the plaster walls, rotted wooden window frames, carpeting I wouldn't step on with […] bare feet, dented doors without working locks, toilets without covers, sinks without plugs, water stains around ceiling edges. Maybe the suites are newly renovated, but I expected all the rooms to be. PROS: The bar was modern and the service was good. We stayed overnight and everything was okay. The location was nice. We were able to walk to Lakefront Brewery tour and to Brocach for appetizers. It was a $10 cab from Mo's. the bed was not comfy and the headboard was loose so any movement in the bed woke me. The room was warm and so we opened the windows. The room was spotless. For the price, I could not have been happier staying at the Astor. We were only there one night, so we didn't need many services, but the room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location was a short walk from some great breakfast options, and the museum.

Won't let you take your breakfast to your room. WiFi didn't work on my laptop of Kindle. Room was cute, very clean and beautiful linens.

This place looked amazing in the pictures and the price was great for a downtown location. However, the hotel was a bit neglected and in need of some work. The room was comfortable enough, but no amenities (no coffee in the room). The bed was small for two of us which was surprising. My second stay here. I enjoy staying here because there is a bar on site if I want a cocktail, there is no pool so no kids running around, and very nice old world charm and elegance. Pretty good free breakfast, too. Excellent location near lake, excellent neighborhood, and a reasonable walk to the lake front, downtown or the river.

The hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating, however, they needed to do a fair amount of accommodating. There was little light in the room, no heat upon arrival, and in one of our rooms, no working T.V. They are in the process of updating the hotel, and when that happens, I will return.

We had a Mid-January stay and loved the look of the hotel. Parking is in a lot attached to the hotel and protected by a gate. You'll get a proximity key on check-in if you are driving. Our room was one of the least expensive offered and the radiator had been closed so it was very cold when we got in and […] took 3-4 hours to get to a more acceptable but still cool climate. The room was small and cozy and there was no heat in the bathroom. The tub needed reglazing and I saw no source for cooling in the summer so I would be sure to spring for a more expensive room with A/C or ask about a window unit. There was a big void where a flatscreen TV had been on the wall but had been removed And replaced with a little tube TV on a stand in the corner. The bed was wobbly, which may matter to some given your energy level or amorous nature and we did get some noise bleeding in from other rooms. Overall, it was a good value. Its wonderfully located near anything of interest in Milwaukee. It was clean and cozy and the hotel is smoke-free. I would like to return in Summer. 더 보기

Overall, good price for the hotel, and nice place to stay but had the old water heating so it was quite warm.

Hotel was clean, bedding comfortable, staff friendly. Reasonably priced. Continental breakfast included next day. Who could ask for more? And they had a shuttle. This was for New Years Eve so we could celebrate and not have to drive! Great! Will do again next year!

Very spartan accommodations. Room was hot the entire night. Hotel uses a room key, not a card swipe entry. Because of this, we worried about duplicate keys being used to enter our room. Good value but I'm unsure we'll ever stay there again

It is very interesting to see and stay at one of the old hotels. From the National Historic Register plaque next to the front door, to the antique fixtures in the bathroom, I loved it. Of course there are things that will cause some to grumble, but for me this was a treat. I will return.

This was a great place to stay. Everyone from the front desk to the shuttle driver went out of their way to help us. There is no doubt about it - the Hotel Astor is an old girl, but she is beautiful and has all the ammenities of much more modern and expensive places (free wi-fi, breakfast, and a free shuttle to places downtown).

The Astor is a great hotel, overall. While the rooms are old, they have character, charm, and are still really comfortable. Private lot parking is only $7/day, and the place offers free breakfast during very reasonable hours (6-10 AM). The Astor is conveniently located — within walking distance of downtown and restaurants and nightlife.

Formerly-grand old hotel in great neighborhoody location, wonderful staff, comfortable bed, cheap parking, free internet in room...Short walk to art museum, half-hour (and quite safe) walk across the river to downtown and Milwaukee Public Museum...I love old hotels in interesting neighborhoods and it was fine for me -- I recommend it but be prepared […] for not-upgraded amenities. Not all the electrical outlets worked, no coffee maker, it lacked a table & chair for the work I had to do, and the restaurant had gone to basic pizza & sandwiches. It was pretty basic. But it was clean, safe, in great location, had my required basics of reading light, good bed, hot shower, ...just don't expect luxury. Do expect charm and a lovely old lobby and a loyal return clientele. Knick, the restaurant at The Knickerbocker Hotel next door, was terrific. The Astor was half the price of the big downtown hotels and though it was older, it was clean, spacious and very nice. Breakfast including a make your own waffle set up! The neighborhood was very safe and nice and I found a grocery store right near by with a hot food and salad bar for reasonable dining in my room. Room had no heat at all. Carpet thread bare, paint chipping off walls.

This hotel was in close proximity to downtown and the lakefront. There is hotel parking for a few dollars a night. We were looking for a cheaper option downtown, but were happy we upgraded to a renovated room for a few extra dollars. The price of this still fell under all of the other downtown hotels. Based on the mixed reviews, I didn't know what to expect. The front desk upgraded us to a suite when we checked in, without us even asking. Not the Taj Mahal, but it was clean and good price for the area. The staff was positive and helpful, provided directions/suggestions for sightseeing. Downside: charged for parking, when website indicated it was […] free(still less than downtown hotels). Also the restaurant didn't offer food in the evening, as they were busy catering a wedding. The hotel lobby and bar/public areas are nice, but the rooms are very dated and doors are paper thin. It's a solid one to one and a half star hotel, but other parts of the hotel are a bit nicer.

It was a lovely older hotel. Not modern, but very spacious and elegant. The rooms were larger than other rooms I have seen in Milwaukee and the surrounding neighborhood was very beautiful. The rates were affordable, the staff helpful and I enjoyed my stay.

The neighborhood was a lovely tree lined area. Room was clean and comfortable. Not too far of a walk from Water Street. Adequate parking. Easy to depart and return. Lovely view of the city from the upper floors.Good deal for the money.

The lobby and bar were very nice.There was alot of old charm in lobby.Elevator was very scary and led into hallway that was even worse.Rooms were very small and horrible,bed was only thing inviting.The air didn't work and tv stopped working working after about an hour.Would not stay there again.

This hotel is very old, and it shows in the rooms that are not yet remodeled. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

The people and public rooms were great, however the individual rooms need major renovation, and sound proofing.

Great location, near the lake and museum. My concern is with sleeping arrangements, rather important in a hotel. The room was never very dark at night. The window didn't open. There was only one layer of bedding, so it was either on, or off. Air conditioner direction was fixed, so I ended up with very sore muscles for days afterward.

Staff was perfect. Free on site parking. Large screen LCD and WIFI despite the hotel's age.

Keep in mind that what they term "Historic" just means old looking, old smelling and the room was incredibly poor. It looked broken down and the other half of the building is cheap apartments. The floor smelled terrible, the amenities were terrible and nothing about this hotel was worth the money it cost.

So much better than "new" hotels - has it's own ambiance and a special serenity which I loved. What a special place. Thanks!
