Very nice hotel I would stay again.

The stay was great. Checkin and out went great. We were impressed with the layout of the Hotel. At first I thought parking was going to be a problem, but it wasn't. It was located by good food and shopping.

Quaint room with kitchenette in motel portion of hotel, but better than most motels. Unit opens onto garden walkway rather than auto parking. Two decent restaurants in or adjacent to hotel. Shops and other restaurants nearby and pleasant walking area in surrounding neighborhood. Staff helpful, main hotel lobby very nice.

The Carleton of Oak Park is a hidden haven to stay when visiting Chicago and its neighborhood. It is convenient to all shops and restaurants and only a walking distance to the CTA to take a train to downtown Chicago. The motel by the hotel is like a home away from home with a kitchette. Staff is very accommodating and helpful.

Rooms were very clean and we slept very well

The hotel has two parts -- the main "hotel" part which they show in the pics, and a 1960's rundown motel portion next door. While Oak Park is lovely, and the convenience of this hotel for Oak Park is great w free parking, it was disturbing to find the lobby completely under construction, the staff lethargic and seemingly uninformed (college students?), […] and the room itself next door, and abt 20 yrs overdo for some "freshening." These rooms do have a very small kitchenette which is convenient for some. While I might stay here again, I would look hard at alternatives, and I would find it difficult to recommend to many, particularly to anyone remotely picky or expecting a "classic" hotel in Oak Park. The hotel is undergoing major refurnishing. The access to the registration desk required lugging luggage down steps through construction. This would have been OK if the web site declared that this was happening. The rooms in the annex have outside access and for a business woman traveling alone that is not acceptable. Internal access is much safer […] and secure. The sound-proofing of the annex rooms is deplorable. I listened to a couple arguing for 3-1/2 hours. The decor of the rooms was a flashback to the 60's and totally unexpected. When was the last time you had a room with TWO double beds? Definitely would not endorse this hotel for business travelers if they are assigned rooms in the annex. 더 보기

Ended up staying in Chicago on the way to a further destination. This hotel is an old building, but the rooms are comfortable. The bathroom with the double sinks were really nice and also clean. Room was quiet and good for sleeping. Neighborhood has a number of nice restaurants and cute shops. Staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay there […] again. The only downside was the old fashioned decor in the hall ways, the chipping paint on the moldings, but other than that it was a great place to stay. 더 보기

Our room in the motel section was quite small but yet it had everything we needed plus, it was clean. There was almost a "retro" feel to the room, but it had a small microwave and fridge in a separate kitchenette nook. We were very pleased with the room.

A little frayed around the edges and the lobby & elevators smelled strongly of food being cooked. However, the room was great, the staff very helpful and a perfect location for our needs.

Clean and comfortable, the main building where we stayed is a bit tired in the halls where the carpet was generic and paint and finishes worn and scratched. The elevators are period piece in the Formica area and the restaurant ventilation leaves the whole lobby smelling like what most people bought for dinner. The heat worked overtime which would be […] great when it's snowing but was overboard with 52 degrees outside. And the streetscape renovations started at 7:00 am both days! This is a lovely hotel in Oak Park that has really beautiful rooms. We stayed in a double double and the space was luxurious. We took Metra into Chicago--very convenient. Two problems--there is still construction outside of the hotel which makes finding the hotel a little difficult. That will resolve itself before too long. The second problem--the […] hotel is not accessible for people using wheelchairs or walkers. Stairs all over the place that cannot be avoided. The hotel was grandfathered in so hasn't tackled all its accessibility issues. The next remodel--sometime into the future--will take care of it. We attended a wedding and found the Carleton of Oak Park to be perfect for our stay. It was close to everything - public transportation is nearby and took us anywhere we wanted to go...a must for seeing the city and escaping the traffic. It was easy to walk to many great restaurants and shops in Oak Park as well. Good times, good location, good all-around […] hotel. One downfall was a single mirror above the bathroom sink....no way to check out how you look. This hotel is within walking distance of downtown Oak Park and lovely Victorian and Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. My room was in motel section. This means I had outside doors and h add d to walk outside to access the front desk, restaurant and bar. This is not a plus for female travelers and would be very unwelcome during inclement weather! My room […] was adequate but not as clean as I would have liked. This was in a large part due to outside debris blowing in. The hotel does have free parking, a plus in the Chicago area. However, only one lot (and one handicap spot) are adjacent to th he hotel. It fills up fast and the other lot is a half block down the street. At this time all of downtown seems to be under construction making navigating a but tricky. I will book here again but only if I can get a room in the hotel section. 더 보기

Older hotel in a beautiful suburb of Chicago. It could use some updateing, but overall clean and comfortable. Not many places to stay in Oak Park. Don't get a room near the restaurant if you like to go to bed early. Also, at this time, there is street construction in the area. It is scheduled to be done by November 2011.

The Carleton of Oak Park provided this weary travel and quiet respite, close to the big windy city, yet removed from the bustle of it all. All the comforts of a nice motel ( I was given accommodation in the motel section and did not see much of the main hotel building except to check in and ask directions, which were caringly given). This hotel had the coolest little retro room (kitchenette almost) that was straight out of the fifties!! Very clean, very well done. The bed sucked but thats my only complaint! Nicely decorated, very cozy. Tasty coffee from the in-room single cup coffee maker was a plus. As I approached this destination, I noticed that all the locals who saw my path crossed themselves and implored me with the most heartfelt groans and sighs not to trespass. It was late but I must confess I was a bit shaken by their dark and ominous warnings; when I crossed the threshold of this palace of all that is ghastly and accursed among the saints […] of heaven, I soon learned the truth. As I lay in my bed of repose the chandelier began to drip a faint, malodorous brown liquid down my nostrils, which woke me with a start. A slow trickle led to a gushing rage, as a sewer pipe exploded straightway hence, and my linens were soiled with the stew of one thousand digested dinners from the waterpipes. The howls of sick rythmic pleasure echoed through the walls, as a chambermaid was receiving her alotted due, at the expense of a hideous and tyrannical brute whose howls matched hers in slimy cruelty. The tiles were covered in slime, the coarse hairs thereon were waded through by vermin of the most agregious species. If you like your chamber to be a very haunt of terrors, make your abode the Carlton of Oak Park. 더 보기

Parking and traffic flow are a problem now with the construction (October 2011). Signage for where to park isn't very good, though the front desk gives good instructions and a map. The woman at the front desk is excellent! Other than parking, the location is great - right at the end stop of the green line of the El. And the shortest walk to the El station […] is through an alley which was impeccably clean (kinda weird for this new yorker). In town for a birthday, we were just looking for "somewhere decent" to stay close to Oak Park. This place was perfect for our needs. We stayed in the motel section, which looked like it had been recently redone, the decor keeping with the 60's retro vibe The bed and pillows were super comfortable. They even had a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. […] The only trouble we had was finding the front entrance to check-in. Would definitely stay here again! Hotel Carlton ideally located near train direct to Chicago and in western suburbs. Much cheaper than city hotels, but great access to city and family in suburbs.

Nice place. Very clean rooms. Very close to The" L". Free off-street parking. Great food in the two restaurants. Super value !

We decided to take a last minute trip to Chicago, but found that the all the hotels downtown were full. Well not totally true, we could have spent $300-$400 per night for a room downtown, but we were not interested in that deal! This hotel is in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. It is very clost to the L Train so you can get into downtown easily. […] The L adds a little "culture" to the experience! We had a transformer blow in the neighnorhood which caused the electricity to go out for several hours. The hotel had 100's of candles ready which actually made for a nice quiet and fun evening (hanging out in the bar in candle light!). 더 보기

We selected this hotel because it is about 20 min. from downtown. The hotel was great and the two resturants were wonderful. They are updating the streets and some shops surrounding the area but that did not bother us. Oak Park is very quiet area. Walk across the street to the train station and get on the green line and it takes you downtown. We […] purchased a pass at CVS beside the train station for $5.75 and you can get on any bus or train all day. Also, we flew into Midway and took a taxi and it was $35 dollars. Next trip we will take the train from Midway (organge line) to the Loop (center of downtown) and transfer to the green line and get out at the Harlem station. The hotel is across the street. If we had done that it would have cost $2.75 each and the time was about the same. If you fly into O'Hare take the blue line to the green. Nice friendly town...very clean compared to New York! We will go again and for the price stay at Oak Park! 더 보기

It was in the walking distance to downtown shopping and restaurant area and Frank Lloyd Wright and Hemingway buildings. The front desk was friendly and helpful.

The hotel was in a great neighborhood. If you stay there, definitely wander to downtown Oak Park just down the road! Close to the L and shopping without the expense of downtown. Yet still easy to get to downtown! Old hotel, a bit agedlooking, but loaded with charm. Good thing I did not want to sleep in though, there was work next to my room at 8:30 […] and it sounded like my room was being bulldozed when I was showering and getting ready to check out. The best thing about the Carleton is the location because if you want to be in Oak Park there aren't many choices. It's walkable to the train and the el which is very nice. There is some construction on the east side which is bad for the restaurant but doesn't really affect the hotel. The hotel room was clean except the carpet was a little worn and […] one of the chairs was stained. I was upgraded from a motel room to the hotel but I'd like to stay in the motel sometime to see the more economical rooms. 더 보기

The hotel is surrounded by orange barrels and caution tape. Roadwork on 2 sides. Many rooms don't have much of a view, esp now with the construction. And boy, we can in thru some pretty ugly neighborhoods. The immediate neighborhood is nice. But, 5 miles away, well, not so much. The rooms are ok.

My son and wife live in Oak Park so we wanted to stay specifically in Oak Park so we could walk back and forth to see them. The construction right outside the hotel was unavoidable and tricky. The road was all torn up and cut off. They are working on making the road and sidewalk more picturesque and the picture of what the finished project will be looked […] nice. It was just unfortunate that we were there during the construction. The hotel itself is old but very nice. We were checked in promptly but, the young man who checked us in was borderline unfriendly. Our room was small but again very nice and clean. The wall air conditioners were very loud and ours was right next to the bed, so it was a little ackward. Internet connections were not good and we were only able to get hooked in once during our stay. Again, we wanted to stay specifically in Oak Park and chose this hotel over the only other one in this town. We were close to everything, and there are many shops and restaurants. I would stay here again, but I know that there are other hotels in a 10-15 minute radius that would be better for less money. 더 보기

I was surprised and pleased to find an older motel room updated, comfortable and clean. The room had a refrigerator, microwave, and a sink. The room had two double beds that were very comfortable. Location of this motel was perfect for me. Stores, restaurants, and train to Chicago all within walking distance. Couldn't beat the price!

We truly enjoyed our stay at this motel. The room was just what we needed - not very big but very comfortable and clean. We were in the motel section next to the actual historic hotel (which is obviously more expensive). The motel is just a short walk from shopping and the "L" which we used to go into downtown Chicago. If not for a single issue, it might have been a five-star experience. I was upgraded to a suite, after having reserved a much smaller room, which was awesome. Hotel staff on day one was o-kay, hotel staff on day two was super-friendly, super-helpful. The room itself is a bit old-fashioned, but clean. Biggest complaint, enough to bring it down a couple […] stars, was that the water pressure in the shower was absolutely terrible, to the point where it felt like I didn't know if I was really able to get clean. Hotel is a great place to stay! Closet space is limited but a must stay for the price.

Everything you need and want all wrapped up in relaxation and a peaceful neighborhood.
