Nice quiet place

We would come back and reserve a whole bldg.

Forget anything you thought you knew about Howard Johnson hotels- this is converted condos. It is quiet, private and convenient. The layout of the rooms may be a little odd depending on how they chopped up that particular condo, but this is minor. The pluses far outweigh this one little negative. I booked one of the two bedroom units which was two bedrooms and no living room. It's an ok place if you need room for four and are on a tight budget, but dont expect it to be much nicer than the national chain that "leaves the light on for you". The hotel is built like detached condos giving you a real sense of privacy and separation. The room was close to shabby It is really not ADA accessible, and not too great if you have much luggage. Breakfast was totally lacking in protein, but great if you want carbs and coffee. It is in a residential area, and an easy walk to the Asilomar Conference […] site. Other than Asilomar, there are no restaurants anywhere close. Also, the internet connection was the slowest I have ever seen. If you want to stay close to Asiliomar, it is OK. This hotel was great. Beds comfy. Breakfast fine. Quiet neighborhood. Friendly and helpful staff. The only thing that was odd was the set-up of the rooms. You walk into the room with a king bed. It had an older TV and DVD player. The next room has a queen, the fridge and microwave. The bathroom is off of that room. This makes the set up great for parents […] with kids. Privacy at night is something often missing when traveling. The lights went off in the queen room around 10 and it got very dark, so I suggest you bring a night-light if you travel with kids. We finally did get them to stay on, but there was something funny about the energy saving set up in this room. It was not a deterrent. I do recommend this hotel. The hotel is located in a very quite area.The room is very spacious and clean.

Good location in nice neighbourhood, free breakfast was okay, man on reception when we arrived was very helpful. Rooms are nice with wooden apex ceilings and the layout of our room was a bit quirky but was very comfortable and clean. Wood stay there again when in the area of Monterey.

We were very pleased with our room. It is located in a quiet area, the bedroom was spacious. The bathroom was great with a double sink, drawers for storing toiletries, an enclosed toilet within the bathroom area and a large tub/shower. It had a large walk-in closet with a roll-away bed that we did not use. There was a refrigerator and microwave available. […] The room was damp and chilly on arrival, but it warmed up nicely. It was a short drive to everywhere that we were interested in going, but it was away from the beach and restaurants. For people who would like to be in walking distance to tourist attractions, it may not be the best choice, but for those who want a quiet, peaceful night's sleep, it was great. 더 보기

Clean and comfortable, but no heat in the morning. Manager brought up two space heaters. Area is lovely, hotel is very quiet.

It was a wonderful location, and close to the half-marathon course that we were doing, so our guests could walk there and cheer us on! - we will certainly use it again next year for the same event. We also got a very good deal on the price, and all our rooms were spacious, with kitchenettes, and were near each other. I booked a 2-bedroom suite (for a fabulous price) as a friend and I were going down to a wedding in Big Sur. Cheaper than 2 separate rooms, located within walking distance of Asilomar Beach, this place was a no-brainer. I don't need luxury. Well, the "2 bedroom" suite was really a 1 bedroom condo with a king in what would have been the living room. […] The bathroom and mini-fridge are in the other bedroom, meaning that if you're super-shy like my traveling companion, the bathroom is not accessible in the middle of the night, nor is the fridge, which I find ridiculous. This room (118, I think) should have been a 1 bedroom suite. That aside, the fridge and microwave are a really convenient amenity which I appreciate, and they supply you with more hand/face towels than I could even begin to imagine needing. I was glad I brought my own toiletries--the freebies are pretty sad (but what do you expect from a HoJo?) 더 보기

Set in a quiet residential area, 10 minutes walk from the beach, and with a good restaurant (The Fishwife) around the corner, My wife and I found this an ideal hotel for us. However a word of caution for those with limited mobility, Our room was up 2 flights of stairs, and the bath/shower arrangment in the room, invovolved climbing quite high steps, […] to get into the bath. This was not a problem for us, but some of my friends with bad hips could have found it a problem. Also as the hotel is situated in a small road in a quite residential area, with very limited street lighting, it is not the easyist place to find if you are arriving after dark! These are only minor points, and I would certainly use this hotel again, if I stay in Pacific Grove 더 보기

Overall, we like the neighborhood, in walking distance Asilomar Beach. For some reason, the exterior of the hotel is maintained beautifully, very nice landscaping, and well kept exterior. The interior was very dingy and dusty. Could use carpet and drapery cleaning! Liked having the two rooms. We were very annoyed that the front desk called us at 11:00 […] am to make sure that we left our room soon for housekeeping-not on our check out day. He said that his housekeeping staff left at 12:00. Not my problem, I'm on vacation, don't bug me, and pay your staff to stay until check-in time. The next morning when it was our time to check out, the front desk staff called our room, and our friends/ room also at 8:00 as a kind of wake up call, and hung up before we answered, to be sure that we didn't oversleep and miss our 11:00 check out. If you stay here, be sure to unplug your phone. Have any other guests had this same problem? Soooo tacky. 더 보기

We had an enjoyable stay. The grounds were quite and nice. The rooms were a little smaller than I expected for a two room suite. I expected a common room but it was literally two rooms, one with a kitchenette. Small but workable for a family of four. The Breakfast was OK. There was cereal, danishes, bagels, waffles, milk, orange juice, coffee and tea. […] It would have been nice to have some fresh fruit or yogurt available to offset all of the bread and grain items. This Inn is a short block away form the Asilomar State Beach Conference Center entrance. We walked down to the beach and around the dunes. Very relaxing. 더 보기

These are converted condos that are situated in a very peaceful, quiet neighborhood. A little dated, but comfortable and clean. TVs are older and remote controls a little temperamental. If you are traveling with someone who cannot climb stairs, like the elderly, I would not suggest staying here. The free breakfast was convenient but not geared towards […] anyone trying to avoid carbs or gluten. My husband took a walk early in the morning and observed deer and other wildlife. We really enjoyed the break from traffic and noise and would definitely stay here again. 더 보기

For a day or two this hotel is okay. It is dated but the rooms are clean and large. It is within walking distance to the beach. A nearby restaurant called the Fishwive is popular but a bit overrated. Did not have time to try the breakfast.

Friendly staff. Two blocks from Asilomar grounds and beach. Downtown just a short drive away. Well kept and spacious rooms. Closets a bit small but ok. Hallways leading into building had an older smell. Rooms nice and comfy. Great price if traveling with a family or small group.

The property itself is very nice and doesn't have a hotel feel to it. It is very quiet and peaceful there. The buildings look more like condos. The room, however, was dated and a tad dingy, though roomy enough and comfortable. There is a large walk-in closet with a kitchenette. The heater (forced air) was very loud. The balcony had a lovely view of […] large trees but it was full of bird droppings and not well maintained. The bathroom had a very strange sunken tub/shower arrangement, so I would caution anyone with physical challenges or very young children that this could be an issue. There is a walking/running trail right behind the hotel, so this is a nice option for runners. You can see deer wandering around the area and there is a park with a playground just 2 blocks away. The hotel is a short drive (a few minutes) away from downtown Pacific Grove, so it's very convenient to restaurants, shopping, strolling, etc. 더 보기

Personnel à la réception aussi aimable qu'une porte de grange... Le gars entre-ouvrait la porte pour le petit déjeuner et partait aussitôt, sans dire bonjour... Pas sympas du tout. Sinon, très grande chambre, très calme.

My family had a very good experience at this hotel! It was very clean, inside and out. Very quiet, the only sound heard at night was the ocean from our balcony. The kitchenette was stocked with dishes, glasses, silverware, dish soap and sponge and had ample room to prepare meals with the addition of the balcony for our portable grill. We had the two […] bedroom unit which was great for us because we were traveling with our 5 y.o. and 18 y.o. daughters and that afforded the 18 y.o. her privacy, yet she was still in the same unit as we were. The beds were and linens were very comfortable and the furnishings were up to date and in great shape. The breakfast was nice and more than you normally get. We stayed 2 nights and the room was cleaned and towels restocked for the second night. I was impressed watching the cleaning staff even wiping down the outside railings and balconies. The staff was pleasant and polite. Check in and out was a breeze. This place is a gem and well away from "Hotel Row", yet still within minutes to everything. We will absolutely stay here again and very much recommend Howard Johnson Express Inn at Pacific Grove to others! 더 보기
