My friend and I had a lovely room our only regret being that there were no drink making facilities and no hot water for drinks available in the hotel. It was very quiet, no noise on the 3rd floor and the hotel decor was very nice. The room was clean. The best bit was the location. Great upper west side location close to central park

Spacious suite, up to date decor. Very fair price for this neighborhood. Fabulous location. Only complaint is that the bartender at the onsite restaurant was very rude. We ended up leaving and going someplace else- avoid the restaurant (head up to Columbus and make a right to find a great selction of awesome restaurants)!

The hotel was very comfortable and in a great location for my stay.

The hotel was clean, convenient, people friendly and reasonably priced. Location good for shopping, public transportation, restaurants and museums. The park is an added bonus. We are looking forward to our next stay!

I love this hotel. It is central to everything. You can walk to either Central Park or Riverside Park and there are lots of shopping and great restaurants.

...no coffeemaker in room, no frig, no hot cups, and - what was REALLY irritating - having to pay $4.00 for a minimum Internet connection on the "hotel computer" to print out our boarding passes. My husband and I and our 2 young adult sons stayed in this hotel for 2 nights.This was the second year in a row that we chose The Excelsior Hotel. It is a great location for families. It is close to the museums and the park. The upper west side is family friendly. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I found the hotel delightful during my recent stay with my family. The staff were warm and helpful and went well beyond what I'm used to seeing in the larger multinational hotels. Quiet, well appointed with an excellent breakfast all at a very reasonable price. 15 minutes taxi ride to Times Square and the theatre district, 2 minutes walk to Central […] Park. The only complaint was the AC unit in my room was quirky. The room always felt warm so we had to turn on the AC every once in while. However, after running it for about 15 minutes, the cold air would suddenly turn into hot air. It was a minor inconvenience we could live with given the weather outside.

Excellent hotel in a great neighborhood. Subway right next to hotel. Great restaurants in area. Hotel was very clean. The desk clerk when we registered was very distant and reserved.

Staying at Excelcior Hotel with the family during winter holiday. The hotel really gives value for. It has a good location next to the Central Park. The hotel is very clean, so were the towels and the linen. There is a complaint about the windows of the room, though. Coming from a country with three-glass windows as standard, the one layer windows […] give the feeling of draft. The air-conditioning / heater system in the room represents the "old school". The heater / air-conditioner is noisy and practically unuseable during the night. The night temperature in the room is thus dependent on the outside temperature. The service at the Excelsior is polite and useful, without being unctuous. This is a perfect location for walk through the park to the Met or Frick. Also catch the subway at the corner for Cloisters or downtown to B'way and Chelsea. I've stayed here 4 years in a row and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The rooms are small but clean, the lobby is elegant […] and breakfast is wonderful, though expensive. My only complaint is they stopped providing coffee in the rooms. The front desk staff was a little short when giving me directions to parking. They did not seem to take into account that I did not live and had never been in the neighborhood. Had they simply said "Go into the Museum parking lot" that would have been sufficient and helpful or even to have gone outside and pointed to the correct entrance. I felt like […] they thought I was a "hayseed" because despite the fact that they said, "You can't miss it" I DID miss it. We stayed at The Excelsior Hotel March 14-18, 2012. While in NYC our needs are 1) to be close to the subway, 2) safe location, 3) comfortable beds. It did all those and was in such a beautiful, QUIET location. The value was second to none. We will definitely stay there again if the price is still so good.

My wife and I have been staying at the Excelsior since the 1990's. At first the charms were the low prices and the great location. Now it is more expensive (sometimes too expensive in the high season) but still a great location and the first place we look when making hotel reservations in NYC. Still, the location is the thing.

We loved this hotel. The doorman was especially helpful in flagging cabs for us. It is a quiet location, very convenient to the subway, and there are some wonderful restaurants within 4-5 blocks. The only negative was that we had trouble getting the heat to come on in our rooms. We also enjoyed Calle Ocho, an excellent restaurant inside the hotel.

Well-appointed rooms in a quiet location, short walk to shops and restaurants and across the street from the Natural History Museum. Breakfast in the hotel was adequate but nothing special. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. WIll definitely stay again!

Half a block from subway, close to shops and restaurants -- and lovely rooms!

Incredible neighborhood. Very clean room very comfortable. 10 minute subway ride to Times Square. Across the street from the Natural History Museum and the Planetarium. Wonderfully closs to Central Park. Columbus Avenue has delicious cafes and Zabar's is 2 blocks away. I Highly recommend this hotel

Convenient, friendly location.

The room had some issues. The hair dryer didn't work, the safe was out of batteries/wouldn't work, and the sink was cracked. There was no coffee maker or fridge. The staff was very good about giving us a new hair dryer, but I didn't bother with the rest. The room felt small, but it was clean and bed bug free.

No coffee maker in the room, but there's a Starbucks on the corner. We had a leaky air unit on the first night and informed maintenance. When we got back after seeing the sights the following afternoon, they had upgraded us to a suite. Nice views, and the front desk staff was very helpful. We would stay here again. We have stayed before and like this hotel, but this time the room was very hot and uncomfortable. Lowering the thermostat did nothing but cause the heat to blow hotter! There was no way to cool the room except to open the windows. The staff was aware of the problem but had no suggestions. I recently relocated away fron NY and expect to return for 5 or 6 days a month. The Excelsior will be my hotel of choice as the price is reasonable, the service curteous and the location for my purposes is as good as it gets.

We had tickets for a play at Lincoln Center and found the Excelsior to the perfect location. We took advantage of nearby restaurants, shopping and museums. It was wonderful to explore the area and enjoy the neighborhood atmosphere around the hotel.

I've stayed twice at the Excelsior -- both times while living in New York City. The first time I was between apartments (spent 2 nights while waiting for my next abode to be ready); and then recently I booked a room for a family visit (my apartment being too small for guests). My sister, niece and I had a lovely suite, impeccably designed and quiet, […] with a view of the park surrounding the Museum of Natural History. In the morning, we had a good run in Central Park, then brunch at a cozy restaurant on Amsterdam Ave. The hotel is an excellent value. The neighborhood is upscale residential, not touristy, with lots of wonderful restaurants, and just a block from Central Park. The staff is very professional. Staying there I felt like a sophisticated world traveler in my own city. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who prefers an understated touch of class. 더 보기

Immediately across from the American Museum of Natural History a great location if you have kids and want to be out of the chaos of midtown. Upper West Side neighborhood close to Central Park and walking. Still New York, but quiet compared to most areas. Hotel was nice--rooms are small but comfortable and well kept. Great Hotel, We always try to stay there when we go to NYC. We love the location and the Hotel is clean and attractive. Hard to beat
