Hotel was clean but old. Very isolated area with a beautiful view.

It's 1977 in this hotel. Upgrade underway, but it's gonna take a while....

While we had heard that the resort rooms were on the older side, and that it was due for a major renovation, this really shouldn't keep anyone from planning a stay there. We were there for a late-Feb. ski trip. Our rooms were clean, the setting is relaxing and quiet, and we'll be happy to return. If you need internet access, bring an Ethernet cable […] (and maybe an extra power extension--like most older hotels, the outlets aren't very convenient). 더 보기

GREAT LOCATION! The room smelled a bit smokey and there was no fridge or microwave, but hey it was dirt cheap and had everything we needed. Would DEFINITELY stay again.

3 night stay over New Year's Day. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms, however, have a very stale smell and furnishings are worn out. The resort is constructing new buildings with lodging which will should be ready in a few years.

My wife and I had a great time. To our surprise and delight, a yearling deer with no apparent fear of humans visited us just outside our room and accepted a nibble from my hand - I'd never known that deer liked bananas! Be careful, though: deer are still untamed animals, and shouldn't be invited in (we didn't go that far in our offer of hospitality.) […] Great fun, and a lovely stay. 더 보기

Very good place for get togethers and to spend a quite weekend with family. Hotel was comfortable and food good. Though fall season was advertised as second week of october, by the time we arrived there were no leaves on the trees. The only other attraction was the black water falls.

We were looking for a few days away, and found it in Canaan. Mid-October, and the town was pretty much deserted. This was what we were hoping for. The lodge was a bit outdated, but very clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Beds were very comfortable. Dining had a bit to be desired. There were not many restaurants available without traveling. […] Food at the lodge was a little overpriced for what was offered. Overall, we were pleased with our stay, and plan on returning. 더 보기

Room was dusty. I do not think these people ever cleaned under the bed. Struck me us as a money grubber. While there, our I-phone malfunctioned,so we needed to make a few local phone calls using the hotel telephone. This hotel chaged us tens of dollars for a few local calls. Also, a couple of old computers in the Lobby (printer does not work). Rate: […] $ 5 per 15 minutes. I guess they have no clue about customer service. Other hotels (3 stars) would give you free PC use, free local telephone, and some coffe in the Lobby. We were so surprised that this hotel is right in the middle of a state park! How convenient for our purpose of visiting the fall foliage and attractions in the surrounding areas.

Beautiful resort in west virginia mountains, very relaxing

This was supposed to be a "resort", so I expected it to at least be clean. Had we wanted to stay in a cabin or camp, we would have made a different selection before reserving. Tip to future travelers - make sure you wear dark socks in the rooms as the "carpet" is original from the 1970's. And one last note, we brought a snake home with us in our luggage. […] The only time the bags were not in the car were when they were in this hotel room. They were never left "outside" on in any type of luggage storage. They went from our house, to the car, to the room and back. The only conclusion we can come up with is that it was in our room. Older place that is well maintained in a beautiful setting. It is state park owned at a beautiful, quiet location. The convention building is just that....set up for meetings, etc. Nice bar with reasonable beer prices and expensive wine prices. Music was too loud and not "country" or ""Bluegrass". They turned it down by request. Same problem in the […] dining room...bad music. Food was superb, for both breakfast and lunch....about 15% higher than it should have been, but still OK. Recommend that the resort have a small band during day or evening to keep guests at the resort and sell more food and beer. 더 보기

This was a last minute getaway and the resort was wonderful. Kind of in the middle of nowhere, however that's what we wanted. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast buffet was great. A seafood restaurant down the road was a very pleasant surprise. Would definitely return to this resort again.

The location was beautiful however the rooms are standard motel type rooms. Very outdated but clean. There was no microwave or fridge in our room which I had requested so we had to eat at the restaurant onsite. It was WAY over priced. The food was ok we had a breakfast and a dinner there due to convenience and opted to go out to get something the next […] day. Plenty of stuff for teens to do and the pools were nice. Nice resort with summer activities - mini golf old but included with room price, hiking, outdoor and indoor pool. Also small game room/pool table. Excellent for price. Negative is lack of nightlife, one bar but without entertainment even on weekend night.

I can not wait till the hotel is renovated. The CVR is a pretty place. The Raven Lodge was comfortable. I would suggest for seniors that unless you are in really good health not to stay on the second floor. Their is no elevator and dragging your luggage is very hard. I hope when the lodge is finished CVR will add more spaces nearer to the lodge for […] seniors. The price was half that of what the lodge actually wanted....and my parents were happy. Hotel is out of the 1970's with some wear/peeling paint. However, room was clean, everything worked, and the surroundings are fantastic. Lodge offered an 8-mile guided hike (not free and not every weekend so check ahead) with a shuttle. Deer all over the place. Good food in Davis. I will be back!

Overall this is a nice place to stay. Well maintained grounds, nice lounge, they had a buffet breakfast and dinner but we never ate there. The rooms could use some updating but overall seemed clean. Overall the room was ok, with many items needing updating. Bathrooms were the most notable of these. The activities on the grounds were unkept and unusable. Tennis courts, basketball courts, paintball course, outdoor pool, volleyball, horseshoes and any other you could think up were so poorly maintained, that noone would use them. I read a lot of review before staying here and most said that the lodge was dated and its true but it is a west virginia hotel. Most of the decorations are hunting themed and gave a nice outdoorsy feel. All in all I was very happy with my experience but I was not expecting something spectacular. The lodge and rooms are dated and passed due for renovation. Beside the overall tired look of the lodge the TV remote didn't work and we never did find the switch to the vanity lights. On the positive side the grounds are pictureesque and Canaan Valley is beautiful.

Very good and friendly staff. I will definitely stay there again when I go back to that area.

I could not recommend this facility to anyone that expects a well maintained, clean room. The maintenance is poor as is evidenced in the peeling paint in the bathroom. Bedding is old and faded giving a shabby appearance. Carpet is dirty and slippers or shower shoes are a must.

The room was clean and the staff were courteous.

Great room for the money, just not very convenient to any main roads. Plan on a long drive through the mountains.

The accomodations were good and the service was excellent. The buffet dinner offered on Saturday evening was one of the best we've ever seen. The resort offered a convenient shuttle service to the slopes.

remote location, beautiful surroundings the hotel rooms and conference center are showing their age and the smell from the cleaning chemicals in the room was quite intense. However, all in all a quiet weekend in the company of friendly people. Beautiful in the snow. We plan to go back in the summer and hike.

I actually didn't expect much but the facility had a lot more amenities then I though. I had a problem checking in because my first and last names where in the system reversed. One problem we had was we had 17 people and wanted to go out to dinner. The Hostess told use it would take 2 hours to get us a table. We looked in and they only had 30% of the […] tables filled. All the others were not bused yet. They had glasses and dishes on all of them. Mind you this was a buffet so all the staff was to do is pour drinks and pick up dishes. We went to the front desk and asked if we could talk to the resort manager on duty and she told us she could put us in a private room. We explained that the restaurant is not crowded, the waitstaff are just not cleaning the tables. 10 minutes later they put a table together for us and cleaned all the others off. The restaurant is very nice and the food was great. I think they are just lacking management. Overall we love going to Canaan Valley. Understand it is a state ran facility so be patient. Near Timberline Ski Resort, our destination. Clean but older, some obvious disrepair. Would stay there again for the discounted rate but would have been disapointed had I paid the hotel's regular price.
