everything about the hotel itself is excellent, the refridgerator n microwave made life soo much easier for people like us who being indians and veg donot find easy access to restaurants with our taste... so packing a ,eal and having it later is a necessity... however the place is a bit difficult to get to, the nearest nj trnasit bus stop of bus 40, […] is a walk of about 10 minutes form the hotel, thereafter take a train from penn to manhattan, it comes to 13 dollars per person per day for the return trip... taking the shuttle from hotel to nerark airport n then the airlink to railroad connection for the train to manhattan is easier on the body but will cost u 25 for the return trip per person, same as what the hotel charges for a direct drop off n pick up... anyways we r penny pinchers , cos inspite of this we land up spending sooo much n these vacations, and the cost of transit to and from the hotel is the only major drawback for anyone visiting manhattan on vacation with family... 더 보기

This hotel is very close to the airport and not far from the train station. The furniture however is destroyed and the televisions needed to be replaced a few years ago. The first room we checked into the color didn't even work. The second room the handles were all missing from the drawers, but it was better to settle for that than a dysfunctional  […] television. 더 보기

This hotel is in a location between second hand car dealers, car breakers and longterm parking lots, Far away from any place at all. I did not l;ike the room, it was too noisy and the oveerall quality was low.

I needed to be near the airport and didn't want to spend alot of money. If that is your primary goal and comfort and luxury is not one of your needs then you can forego luxury for one night. It's old, the walls are thin, but it was clean and the parking was free.

PLACE IS A DUMP, NOTHING AROUND THE AREA TO DO, NOT A SHOP IN SIGHT. STAFF HAVE A DONT CARE ATTITUDE, LIKE THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOUR, CLEANLINESS IS OK, ROOM SERVICE DONT BOTHER REFILLIG COFEE SACHETS, ACCESS TO DOWNTOWN IS VIA THE AIPORT, SHUTTLE TAKES YOU TO THE AIRPORT, TAKE AIRTRAIN TO TERM.C, THEN TAKE BUS,62 TO NEWARK PENN STATION AND THEN OATH […] TRAIN TO UP OR DOWNTOWN NYC. THERE ARE OTHER BETTER HOTELS IN AROUND THE SAME PRICE RANGE, SOME OFFER BREAKFAST AND OTHERS FREE SHUTTLE TO NEWARK PENN STATION. IF YOU TAKE THE TRAIN FROM NEWARK AIRPORT TO NYC PENN, IT IS EXPENSIVE, COMES TO $25 RETURN FARE. 더 보기

The hotel itself is not bad: the rooms are comfortable and quiet, if a bit dated; the restaurant has decent food; and the hotel offers a gym and laundry room. But it's terribly managed. The card keys are an absolute disaster. They basically work once, so if you so much leave your room to get ice you won't be able to enter again. I had to go to the lobby […] at least twice a day, to ask them to get my card key working again and not once did any of the employees said so much as "sorry" for the inconvenience. If anything, they seemed to act as though I was inconveniencing them. In the end I was so frustrated that if I planned to leave my room for short periods, I just left the door open, which is less than ideal but it saved me a trip downstairs. If the hotel were better managed, it would be a good place to stay, but right now I wouldn't recommend it. 더 보기

I am frequent visitor and although I know of the parking fee I find it to be quite unfair. It's gone up from $15 to $17 dollars just in the past few months.

I was 18 minutes from getting on the shuttle at the hotel to being at my gate. Can not get more convenient location for quick access to P4 Aritrain and they have 24 hour non-stop shuttle service.

The hotel itself is worth the money, but when I arrived they told me to park on the neighbor's ground (which is commercial long term parking). So I asked the manager of that company and he agreed to keep my car for one night at no cost (many thanks to Vista Parking).

For staying one night to have a place to sleep after a long flight, the hotel is recomendable.

Great place to stay for those who are making connecting flights. Very quiet with nice linens in the room etc. The only I found disconcerting was the huge portions in the restaurant.

Small, basic, and uncomfortable. While I was there I saw other customers arguing with the hotel manager about bed bugs in their room. It's close to the airport and they offer free shuttle service, but thats about it as far as plus points go. Use your money on some of the better hotels in the Newark airport (EWR) area. The bathroom was old and in need of repair - the shower nozzle was missing a screw and therefore could not be adjusted. The bathroom door knob fell completely apart in my hands, making me locked in the bathroom. Had I not been with someone else, I'd still be locked in there. When I reported it, the guy at the desk said, "Have a nice day." THAT is it! […] And then, my credit card was charged for parking - a charge I was not told would be added to my pre-paid bill. It is not on Hotel.com, nor is it posted. And all the desk guy said was, "Your bill was pre-paid. Have a nice day." 더 보기

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in during my travels. There were 2 young children with me on this trip, and I am sure this hotel would not meet up to nationwide or statewide standards. There was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom. There was dirt on the carpet that appeared as if it had not been vacuumed. And the carpet turned the […] kids socks black when walking around on it during the evenings. There was an electric socket that was hanging out of the wall. The in-room coffee pot poured the water all over the counter, and ended up sitting in a puddle of water. Which I am sure was an electrical hazzard. The shuttle bus that was to run from the Neward Airport every 30 minutes, ran over an hour on our return to the hotel one evening. Leaving us with 2 young children sitting in the airport for 1hour and 15 minutes, and 3 phone calls. This was the worst hotel stay I have ever encountered. This is a well used hotel but it was clean, the staff was friendly and the price was right

no manager on duty. shuttle van driver was rude, and looked like a derilick. He drove off without picking people up and had a non careinhg additude

All I wanted was a clean, safe and inexpensive room near the airport for a morning flight. The HoJo's was perfect. There is a secured parking area ($15 per night) and even a small, simple restaurant with room service. For my purposes, it was perfect.

Stayed here overnight to catch a very early flight from Newark Airport. Usually stay at other hotels in the area that include up to 10 days of free parking in their rate(s). Did not need parking this time so I stayed at HJ. Other hotels' room and service accommodations are better quality than HJ. BAD SHUTTLE SERVICE FOR A FEW MORE DOLLARS UPGRADE

Smelling in the hallway and room, they DO charge parking fee. It is really hard to find the location, and it is in the end of toll road if you take 495.

This hotel was okay for the one night i stayed. It was very close to everything but too close to the airport we could hear the planes late at night. They def need updates the elevator felt like it was going to break down the walls in the room were scuffed and there were no fan in the bathroom. Gangland , dirty and very noisy

The hotel staff was pleasant to deal with, the room was nicer than we expected (for a ho-jo by the airport). We would stay there again. The only issue we had is we didn't expect to pay for parking as a hotel guest. The parking lot is shared by a long term parking service so the lot is almost full all the time. The hotel itself was good,but the amenities need to be worked on...could not get wi-fi,although it was free,the food in the restaurant could also be better,and the location of this hotel is not the best accessible...if you're not familiar with the area,your chances of getting lost are high

This hotel would be OK for one night only, but if you are going to be there for more than that I'd pass. There is no nearby shopping or restaurants, although the food in the hotel restaurant is good and reasonably priced you might want more options than just that. Access to the hotel is difficult, and the surrounding area is industrial and NOT welcoming […] at all. Also, there is a daily parking charge here that was not disclosed at the time of booking the room. The front desk did give me a discount on it but it is something to be aware of. 더 보기

This hotel is just a place to sleep on your way from or to the airport.

The hotel is very good for the price I payed. The room is big, clean and comfortable. My only comment is as soon as you enter the hotel lobby, it smelt like toilet. It is clean but it smelt toilet everywhere.

On arrival did a look around of the room and noticed something on the side of the faucet, whatever it was, was still there on the day we left. The first morning got up to have a shower went to get in and the shower rode fell and hit me in the head. My husband and I had to hold up the the rod for each of us to shower that morning. We wedged it up on […] the wall with an empty toilet paper roll, went out for the day reported what happen to the front desk. I was told they would tell the maintenance crew and they would get it fixed. We arrived back to the hotel to find that it wasnt fixed it looked, went back down to the front desk angry this time. This time went back down explained exactly what happen (it hitting me in the head) no apology from anyone was told the manager would contact us and that never happened. We came back from a night out to see " what they called was a fix". The same rod still up wedged with a ripped off the edges toilet paper roll, the opposite side bracket which was almost cracked in half screwed to the wall. The rod was completely falling apart and they had no concern about us or for that matter any other guests if this issue couldnt be fix. This was our first travelling experience in 10yrs celebrating 10yrs of marriage and this is what we had to go through. We are planning another trip back to New Jersey annual as we are Devils fans, but have no intentions on returning to Howard Johnsons. We will be waiting for someone to contact us on this matter. 더 보기

we found the hotel to be good, clean, nice staff, easy to get there and reasonable rpice.

Our stay at the HJ was perfect. We stayed one night arriving late and leaving the next day. The check in was friendly, the front area clean. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I WILL definitely stay again!!

The hotel is close to all side attraction. has a wonderful and friendly staff. Most importantly close to the airport. I love the hotel.

This hotel - only busy because of price. 1st I should have listened to the other reviews. Door torn off the TV armoire, heater core so dirty I was afraid to turn it on and spread the filth, and internet was unusable. While the room was made up -- it reflected a cover up job (ceiling tiles stained in bathroom, stuff in the corners of the room missed […] by vacuuming) and last but not least - after showering I turned the hair dryer on and FLAMES/SPARKS shot out the end at me - a wonder I wasn't electrocuted. Desk manager only offered "here - you can use the front desk dryer" Stay away - spend your money elsewhere. 더 보기

Have stayed here in the past and it seems to be in need of an upgrade ..looking tied was clean and staff helpful..but for the money you pay it does the job

Hotel room was very spacious. Large bathroom was very nice. Planes over head didn't stop and I didn't remember the charge for parking if it was on the reservation form or not. One resturant with late opening and yet late closing had it's drawback for the morning breakfast.
