I selected this hotel because it was the most expensive, so I thought it would be a luxury hotel. This was the smallest room I've ever stayed in, had one double bed, and a poor view. They also added an extra $11 per day charge for internet & roof access... but the roof was closed due to a private party. But the worst thing was seeing brown water come […] out of the faucets. Upon arrival they warned me of this but they said "just let the water run a few seconds to clear up"... wrong! I did like the staff and valet parking (for $26/day extra). Overall I was dissatisfied with the accommodations provided by this hotel. To highlight just a few issues, neither of our two rooms were provided maid service cleaning for our two-night stay, and no explanation was given. Additionally, we found the complimentary Continental Breakfast worth precisely what we paid for it (nothing). Both mornings, there […] were inadequate bowls, coffee mugs, silverware and other dinnerware, as well as inadequate food and seating. We were forced to wait for a prolonged period to serve ourselves the meager breakfast, and were forced to stand while eating. Finally, the concierge directed us to a restaurant that was not open for lunch on the day we requested (a Saturday), and failed to direct us to the best restaurants in the area for evening dining in an effort to get us to eat at the hotel's restaurant. Not sure if this was a financially lucrative tactic on her part, but it occurs to us that perhaps it was. Not first class by along shot--I recommend the Peabody. 더 보기

It was quiet, comfortable and the staff was helpful. The restaurant was great! We wanted hot tea in our room in the evening and the restaurant was happy to deliver.

I liked the Madison. Only down side was that the free continental breakfast did not have many options.

The building is very nice, the rooms are incredible. The service on the other hand was absolutely awful. When I checked in, the clerk at the front desk said it would be ok to park at the parking garage next door. The whole time he acted annoyed with us and avoided eye contact. He neglected to mention that the parking garage was closed Saturdays until […] 5pm. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until I tried to leave Saturday morning. It caused a giant hump in our weekend since Saturday was our only full day in the city, and half of it was disrupted due to rude, incorrect information. When we got back to the hotel, at 4:30pm that day, we expected a little bit of time in the room. However, we were kicked from the room because they were cleaning it still. But when we went up to the room after they were done 'cleaning' there was nothing different. The bed was made and the towels were taken away, but no new towels were replaced. Later on, I retrieved my car from the parking garage, ran around and returned to the hotel. This time I used their valet service. I didn't realize until at checkout that this service was twenty three dollars. That's expected for a hotel like this. But what is not expected is that when we came back from walking to dinner down the street, my car was still parked out front with the lights on still. This was an hour and a half after I left it with the valet. Lastly, and arguably most irritating is the elevator situation. There's only two elevators in the entire hotel. It took five to ten minutes of waiting each time you wanted to go upstairs or downstairs. Then when the elevator finally opens, it was never a guest exiting. All in all, I really enjoyed the building and the room, but I will never return or recommend this to anyone. I get better service at the Comfort Inn. 더 보기

We enjoyed our stay at the Madison. It was very clean and upscale but I would not call it a "luxury" hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive. The only downsides included small rooms and expensive valet parking. Somehow the car moved around several times although neither of us requested to drive it during our stay. Stayed at this hotel for the St Jude Marathon and was very satisfied. The staff was extremely friendly. Everyone including the house keeping staff knew our name. They were constantly asking if they could help us in any way. The hotel is downtown and one block off of the river. The roof top terrace offers great sunset views of the river. Hotel is very […] close to several eateries, including my favorite, Flight. My room was well appointed and the nightly turndown service was a nice touch. They even replaced used towels and emptied the trash in the evening. We will stay here again if we are in Memphis. 더 보기

I picked the Madison because it has very large guest rooms and good reviews. The room was great and very comfortable. My friends and I all commented on how well we slept after our first night there. The service was very friendly but there was one event that stood out in my mind and needs to be commended here. Because we had submitted some laundry late […] and not informed the hotel that we would be checking early the next day our clothes were not ready. It was our fault but we had a full day planned and the hotel offered to deliver our clothes to Graceland for us. Graceland is close but not that close. For some reason the hotel representative was not able to reach my phone at graceland and spent the next hour searching the entire site until she found us and hour later on one of the gift shops. Now that really is amazing service and when we thanked her she clearly thought she was just doing her job. Clearly we will be staying there again when we next visit Memphis! 더 보기

Great location, very comfy rooms. Great bar - Murphy the bartender was the greatest. We had a perfect stay.

We stayed in a King room. IMO this is an above-average business-esque hotel, not really a luxury hotel. Biggest pet peeve was an additional $11/nite "service fee" tacked onto the rate I booked w/ hotels.com. This was for the wifi and continental breakfast, whether you use it or. Lame. Just bundle that into your rate -- why nickel & dime me? The passenger […] unloading zone in front of the hotel was completely filled w/ cars the valet had taken, which made unloading very difficult in the street, w/ cars behind us, etc. Ipod stereo in room was nice, but unfortunately it was designed for a particular model (3GS) and wouldn't work on anything else including an iphone4 and ipod classic. Lastly, the bar closed at midnite on a Saturday nite! Room was clean, pillows and comfortable nice. Bathroom was nice but missing a fan. 더 보기

We stayed at the Madison two nights. This hotel is quite nice, but I'm still asking myself what I got for the high nightly rate that I wouldn't have gotten at a much more affordable hotel. Kudos to the valet / doorperson staff: They are really personable and give great customer service. I was aghast at how much I paid for parking with the valet service, […] however. We really liked the view from the roof deck, but it seems underutilized. You have to buy drinks from the bar downstairs (very expensive, BTW) and take them up to the top floor if you're looking for a "rooftop bar" experience. The free continental breakfast was underwhelming. The presentation was lovely, but the selection of food was not very comprehensive. The room itself was quite nice. It wasn't spacious, but it wasn't small either. It was mostly clean but there was an apparent lack of attention to detail with the housekeeping. The WiFi worked fine. Overall, an above average experience, but still nothing that stands out as meriting the amount we paid for the room. 더 보기

The most impressive part of the hotel was the view from the rooftop. Unfortunately the live entertainment was present on Thursday, but our stay was on the following Friday / Saturday . The staff was the friendliest I have ever encountered. The clerks, cleaning staff, door men, etc., were unusually nice and helpful. Everyone smiled and offered assistant. […] I cannot remember ever dealing with such a friendly group of people as the staff at the Madison. For some reason Madison Ave. was closed ( with barricades ) one block east of the hotel. It really gave an unsettling appearance considering how many of the surrounding buildings were vacant, or at least partially vacant. Not really the fault of the hotel, but still kind of surprising. There were several very good restaurants within a 4 to 5 block radius. Beale St. is an easy 10 minute walk. This hotel is probably on the fringe of the downtown, entertainment district. Overall I would say the Madison compares favorably to the Peabody. However, it is much smaller and does not have the boutique stores and large lobby /bar area. Athough Grille 83 is defiitely a nice bar / restaurant. We definitely enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay there again. Great hotel. Fantastic location, close enough to all the action but far enough to allow a good night sleep. The staff were so friendly. Great views over the city from the penthouse rooftop.

Great Location, near Venice Beach. Clean suites with refrig & microwave. The staff very helpful and gracious. I would definately stay here again.

I was surprised to find that this hotel was so far away from the center of town. There are few restaurants nearby, although we did find a great place for breakfast on 2nd St. called Cockadoo's (or something like that). The hotel is actually very nice, but my biggest gripe is that the front desk clerk, although she was very polite and friendly, did […] not tell us the continental breakfast was free! We were charged $10 per day for that and it wasn't necessary to go out! They tack on a service charge and don't explain what it's for. 더 보기

We chose the Madison after driving 447 miles based on reviews and location and the need for luxury. We arrived late evening, so no Mississippi River view was available, but the bed! It was heaven after a long drive. The nicest staff from guest services to valet; they really know what service means. A full size tub AND a separate shower in a truly large […] bathroom, bar and a great night's sleep. Beautifully appointed with fabulous R&B art pieces throughout. My wife and I loved our time at the Madison! Close proximity to Beale, amazing view of the Mississippi River, and exceptional service. I have never received such great customer service as I did at The Madison!

The hotel is one of those classic pre-war structures, with well-appointed rooms, great bedding, an unexpected rooftop terrace with river views (and music). The hotel was very nice. I believe it is the most upscale, modern hotel in Memphis. Rooms a bit small. The TVs are considerably out of date. Breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was great, along with great service.

A comfortable hotel, attentive and friendly staff, good breakfast! Just watch out for the additional "Service" charge they hit you for! Apparantly this is not included in the online booking fee. This was added to cover use of the business centre, gym, pool, breakfast - I hate these surprise additions!! But I have to say it didn't spoil the stay!

The hotel was very nice and I would go back anytime. The rooms are big, everythings high in,...note to self...don't eat or drink anything any the room! prices on that stuff is crazy! But all around, we weren't there very long and didn't spend alot of time at the hotel, but it's very nice and I would love to go back just to hangout more at the hotel […] . 더 보기

Great Hotel. Convenient location. Only negative is homeless problem in Memphis....rampant. Memphis needs to clean up this problem. Great restaurant in Hotel. Upscale, pricey but well worth it.

This was a good hotel that could have been a great one. The hotel is stylish, the rooms are good sized, the beds comfortable and the HVAC system quiet (a real bonus with me since so many hotels install cheap HVAC systems that whoosh, click, and bang.) The staff was uniformly nice and hospitable. The problem is that there was very little staff about. […] The hotel struck us as skimping on staff. It's noticeable. It took forever to check in, forever to get our car (both parked and brought back around), forever to get someone to answer the phone. Whether this hotel is just responding to the recession or trying not to go into bankruptcy is hard to tell from a one night stay, no matter how well travelled. But this hotel presented itself as an upscale, boutique hotel - and charged prices accordingly. It was staffed and run, however, like a Holiday Inn. That's not a bad thing. Holiday Inns are fine - not great, but fine given their price point. But that wasn't the Madison, in design or price point. It's something to be aware of when booking this hotel. 더 보기

The Madison is a great place to stay! Really good value with plush, spacious rooms. The staff is very helpful and attentive. The night we were staying was the same night as the Justin Bieber concert and the place was packed but the staff was still very friendly and attentive. The only criticisms I would have is that, in our room, the TV was an older […] model - not something you would expect at a hotel of this caliber - and there could have been some more furniture around the pool area. 더 보기

The Madison is uniquely located in downtown Memphis. You can walk anywhere you would want to visit: The Rendevous, Redbirds baseball, Beall Street all nearby.

Great hotel with great people. Very beautifully located and convenient. Courteous, enthusiastic staff. Great area with great food.

I can't say enough about the people at this hotel. They were very professional, polite, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our stay here was absolutely wonderful!!!

I first stayed at the Madison in May 2009, and returned in late Nov 2009, the hotel staff are the most helpful and friendly I have ever met. There was a minor problem with the heat in my room it was addressed quickly, while it could have been fixed in what I considered a reasonable time, the hotel executed the fastest and most convenient room change […] I have ever encountered. The restaurant in the Hotel is so good I tend to eat there rather than go out in a city full of excellent restaurants. Having stayed at the other highly rated hotels in Memphis over the years, my pick will remain the Madison for future trips to Memphis 더 보기

Loved everything about the hotel. The room was very comfortable, room service food was outstanding, and the workout facilities were great. Would definitely stay here again!
