first the good points... the location was great had a pier right beside the hotel and a carnival sort of thing next door. and a wonderful all u can eat breakfast across the street... many beach shops up and down the road and the boardwalk ws nice.... Now the bad... the hotel is far from a good place to stay the floor in the lobby was being laid, there […] was construction crews and vehicals all over the property the whole time we were there. be careful of all the trip hazards allong the way threw the halls and the rooms. one day siting on the balcony we were greated with falling debris from the constroction on the roof.... and we were awaken by banging 2 out of the 4 days we stayed there aby bannging from the workers before 7 many things wernt in the room that were stated to be there... a coffie pot was not in the room. microwave didnt work and the fridge either wasnt cold or froze everything the parking garage was super tight and many construction materials were blocking many spots. the manager and i had words a fiew times and basicly he gave me the option to leave or deal with it cause i booked threw here. very disapointing stay for me i have been going to the beach going on 10 years this has been the worst of the bunch book at you own risk... 더 보기

I just wished we were informed that the hotel was in the middle of construction. It wasnt very nice to have to go around everything to get to the elevator or the beach. Definitley not one of my /our better experiences.

This was the most disgusting hotel I've ever stepped foot into. The countertops in the lobby were plywood, the tiles on the floor were partially ripped up, the rugs were loaded with dirt, elevator floors were uneven, no changing area for the pool, unlit stairways. The entire place was just so dirty and not fit for anyone to stay in!

It was ok for the money spent, but major renovations are ongoing. No Arcade for kids. Lots of construction noise during the day and some kids were partying loud both nights that we were there. The location is great and the room was fine for the price. We will wait until the renovation is finished to ever go again.

The view was amazing, however the balcony was too small. The hotel itself was clean but under construction that we were not aware of. No coffee pot in the room and the coffee supplied was unsatisfying. If we were to stay again we would choose a suite and not a standard room. It was too small for our family and we would have preferred to have a kitchenette. […] This was our own fault not the hotels fault. We learned our lesson. The made service was friendly however our iron was broken and when the maintenance man delivered the new one he was rude. The pool was nice and heated our kids had fun. A hot tub would have been nice. The best thing about the hotel was the location. Personally they should renovate the small rooms to make all suites and not put so much time into there lobby. 더 보기

i specifically asked prior to booking our stay if their renovations would be done before our arrival. They assured me that they would be. Well, they were not. The driveway and lobby were a construction site. The stairwells dirty and noisy. The pool are was alright but needed some upkeep. DO NOT accept a room across from the elevator... it will keep […] you up all night! The beds obviously were not updated in the renovations...they sag and are very uncomfortable. The location is about the only good thing - it is right on the boardwalk. The color choices for the rooms were nice too, something different than the usual boring white.I would also inquire about tour groups - there were 4 buses of high school students - so more noise. If that were not enough the hotel seems to be in the flight pattern of jets flying to the air force base nearby. If we hadn't prepaid for 2 nights we would've left after the first one. It would have been nicer if there wasn't so much construction. I called to make sure everything was done and was told everything but the lobby, but that was not the case.

We really enjoyed our stay. However, we thought the room was really small and there were ants in the room. Found a few in the sink. Everything else was great. Pleasantly surprised. And, the personnel were great! Very helpful and courteous.

I stayed at the Sandcastle for 3 days during spring break with my best friend and our 3 children. The hotel was great. The room was very modern, clean, and comfortable. The indoor pool was heated but I think it was a little too hot because I couldn't stay in for more than 30 min. One complaint many may have is that the hotel is undergoing renovations […] so visually it isn't appealing, but personally, I didn't mind. The construction didn't interfere with our room at all and even though our room was on the second floor, we didn't hear anything. So don't let the construction deter you from staying here. Everything is close by and our room overlooked the beautiful boardwalk and beach. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip out there. 더 보기

They are renovating and that makes this a bad place to stay until they are done.

Hello, The hostel was closed for renovation and the hostel where my wife and myself were been relocated was in renovation too. The swiming was not in service. I'm very angry because I had choose this hostel for the swiming pool.

ok for the price - but won't go back. had to have toilet fixed, and they never did fix the phone. Clean, pleasant room with nice view. overall, very basic, rate should be cheaper for what you get. Friendly staff and 24-hour coffee in the lobby.

My wife and I try to visit Virginia Beach every winter for a number of reasons, not least of which is to enjoy the Christmas lights display on the Boardwalk. We often stay at the Sandcastle because it overlooks the boardwalk and, of course, the ocean, and is conveniently located near all our favorite Virginia Beach sights and restaurants (especially […] the Raven). The staff has always been friendly and efficient, the room is always clean and comfy and the parking is also convenient and covered. Stayed there only 1 night it was under renovation and workers were every where, It was noisy, the room was painted in a loud orange and whoever did the sheet rock job didn't know how to finish it correctly. I was put on the very top floor, would have been nice to have been on one of the floors with a roof over our car and out of the weather. I was not […] satisfied with the room at all although the service was great and the breakfast was good I really don't think I'll be staying there again, orange isn't my favorite color. We also got a ticket to the Christmas lights last time we stayed there but they didn't supply them this time, will look for a motel that does next year. 더 보기

Great service.......great renovations!

Unfortunetly the hotel was not at all what we expected. When we arrived there was a whole renovation going on. This was not listed on the web site. Had I known I would have not booked the room. Also we were told that the pool was heated and opened. When we went to the pool it was closed and I had to call the front desk to open it. I am not sure exactly […] what had been going on with the pool during the renovation but... there were globs of hair in it?? In the room the Refrigerator and microwave did not work. The paint on the walls and ceiling were peeling off. The beds were comfortable and seemed to be clean but all in all i would not reccomend this hotel to another person. I was excited to be in an Oceanfront room so that I could go out on the balcony and see the beautiful holiday decorations on the boardwalk. However, the hotel was under renovation. My room was isolated and the air conditioning was on despite outside temperatures being in the low 40's. I turned the heater on and it made a horrible noise. There was a […] generator that ran all night long also due to the construction. My blanket had enough hair on it to make a toupee--and it wasn't my hair! Then the worst was the windows and the door to the balcony were sealed shut. I was scared to be alone in an almost deserted motel on Christmas night. And I could not even see the lights since my balcony door would not open. The little fridge in the room had been turned off and the picture on the TV was not very good. I ended up driving 550 miles round trip for nothing. I checked out a day early. The young men who worked alone on the front desk were very nice, but not much they could do since they can't leave their posts. Hotels.com gave me excellent customer service! 더 보기

The Hotel was under contruction, the people are friendly, most of the sun in the morning come right it good. I would come back again once construction is done Spring 2012

Off season visit, weather was not that good but enjoyed the proximity to the ocean and the free breakfast. The view at sunset was worth the price of the room.

Only problem was that there is construction ongoing for their hotel renovation. Lots of noise and materials laying around but all rooms are oceanfront so that made it bearable.

Great location; very nice room; staff was pleasant and helpful. Pop for the extra rate for an ocean-side room; it's well worth it: great views and sunrises. Breakfast was adequate, though nothing special. Would stay there again.

This place is right on the beach in the middle of the Virginia Beach strip. We went in the off season...but in the Summer, you would be in the thick of things. Hotel is clearly older and shows it's age and wear. Looked like off season maintaince was in full swing.....so maybe by spring things will be better. Room was clean and staff was nice. The only good thing about this hotel is that it's on the ocean, has a great view and is walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel is under major construction, the showers and carpet are new but that's it. The beds, sheets and linens are gross.....We stayed there on 11-11-11, so give it about 6 months and this hotel will probably be nice again. […] But wait until it's done!!! 더 보기

I loved my room. Oceanfront during the off season is the way to go. Great view, great location, great weekend. They are under construction on different floors, but that did not bother me at all. Breakfast was great. I will definitely book another stay here.

Loved this hotel! Great Customer Service! Great Views! Great Breakfast. Liked the decor (kinda boutique style). DVD Player in Room Mic and Fridge.

The view was absolutely amazing and the hotel seemed to be in reasonable walking distance from a lot of clubs, but not so close to have to deal with the people who go and leave those clubs if you know what I mean. The hotel room itself was average. The only thing I found annoying that there was only one mirror and it was in the bathroom.

People talking loudly in the hallway at all hours. Ratteling wheels on the luggage racks woke us up at 4:00 am and continued all morning as people were checking out. Get that thing fixed!! Hotel exterior and interior hallways are run down. Room was ok. Good beachfront location.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel three times now and it has been a pleasant experience every time. The Sandcastle is by no means a 5 star hotel, but it is fabulous for the price of the rooms and the locations. This […] past time I was a pesky customer and they were very understanding. When we booked through Hotels.com, there were only double queen rooms and so when I checked in I requested a king room and was switched with ho hassle. Then that night it rained and our room happened to be under a low point in the roof so there was a waterfall coming over the balcony. They were very understanding and switched us again for the rest of our stay. We also LOVE the Greek restaurant downstairs! Their continental breakfast room also offers fresh hot Belgium waffles, which are always nice. Right now they are in the process of renovating, but they were doing a fine job of not making it an inconvenience. Overall it is a great place to stay on a budget when you really want all the amenities. 더 보기

The room was clean, great location.. I wasn't happy with the parking, my truck was to tall (6 ft 4 in) to park in the garage so I had to park across the street behind a building... Like I said you get what you pay for..

We stayed right after Labor day. It was wonderful the Hotel staff was very helpful and pleasent to deal with. We wanted to stay an extra night so they found us a room on the nineth floor of the Hotel the view was beautiful. Could not have asked for a better hotel stay. The room was clean and comfortable. We will stay here again.

I was very pleased with my choice of this hotel, as I was unfamiliar with the area and the choices were many! This hotel is ON the beach and it is almost the exact middle of "the Strip"; about 15 blocks in either direction so an easy walk to anyplace I might want to see. Restaurants GALORE!!! The in-hotel restaurant, ice cream shop, snack bar, arcade, […] gift shop and mini mart were all convenient bonuses as I would not need to travel in an unfamiliar area for anything (except gas). I loved the balcony overlooking the beach and the boardwalk. So relaxing. Stayed up all night watching the waves and late night strollers and bicyclists. Never knew sand zambonis existed!! The beach is immaculately cared for, raked free of debris and smoothed each night to prepare for the next-days visitors, the boardwalk swept free. Virginia Beach, you take pride in your lovely city! Thank you! The hotel appears to have been established awhile back and may not be touting all the glitz of the newer places. But just as well as many people strutted through the lobby dripping wet and sandy from the ocean. I was there for the convenient location...out the front door and I was on the strip. Out the back door and I was on the boardwalk. No walking a few blocks or having to find and pay for a parking space. I was there to have an enjoyable, relaxing time and that's all I had to do!!! Sandcastle was closed due to water cleanup from storm. They transferred us to "sister hotel". We also had the option to cancel. Sister hotel was fine, but had none of the amenities - no restaurants, free breakfast, shopping mall,etc. but we were glad just to have a decent, clean place to stay on the boardwalk/beach. My family and I stayed four nights. We would have liked to have stayed longer but Irene pushed us home. Everything was clean, the breakfast was great and the ladies there seem to go out of their way to be friendly. I think my ten month old grandson fell in love....just not sure if it was the waffle or the attendant. The only problem we had was our door […] lock didn't work. We had problems getting into the room several times. I would also suggest that the drapes be shorter instead of covering the AC. We will be back asap. 더 보기

Would not stay in this hotel for more than one night. Old, rooms are cramped, bathroom is the size of a small coat closet. Go for something better.

My family and I just returned from our trip. I had read the reviews of some others and expected to walk into a fish smelling, rude staffing, poor breakfast, no ammenity place. We found none of that. Clean rooms, helpful staff, great breakfast, great location, and convenient to everything. Yes, I must agree with two constants the reviews have had and […] that's the pool/slats between the balcony railings. The pool is not dirty - painted green but the kids pool looks like and is the size of a hot tub and the depth of the pool (4 ft to 6 ft) is not really good for travelers with small children. They should consider putting a railing into the pool at the 4 ft level as the 2 rails they have go into the 5 and 6 ft sections. And my kids are older but I could tell the difference in the distance in the balcony railings and could see where someone with small children would be scared to let them out on the balcony. But you go to the beach to have fun in the sand and surf and that's what we exactly did. Will definitely try to go there again. 더 보기
