We found our room to be very dark - even with all the lights on, there was barely enough light to read by. Not sure why this hotel has a 4 star rating - I'd say 3 star at the most. It was actually pretty basic, nothing fancy at all. It is convenient in that it is across the street from Universite Laval, but unless you want fast food or want to eat at […] the hotel restaurant, it isn't particularly well suited for walking around to get for dinner. Awesome service...the room i was in needed to be upgraded and maintained, however, last time i was here i was in a superb room with state of the art design and decor. the staff is awesome, there is a bar and restaurant....the university is like 2 minute walk and there is an awesome burger joint next door called chez victor. star bar is where all the […] university students go. pool, sauna and all the other stuf is right awesome 더 보기

The room isn't pleasant compared to other hotels at similar prices. The pool area was taken over by others and they did not appear hygienic. There's lots more negative but the worst is that there are bed bugs. I have bites on my arms and legs.

The hotel look great form the outside and the lobby was inviting...Some partsof it looks really out dated. There was a bucket in the hallway collecting water from the ceiling....Also once in my room, the faucet didn't work and the room was really really warm. As for the restaurant, El greco, breakfast took 40 minutes to get served although there was […] just 12 people in the dinning room and the food didn't taste fresh. However, if you have en event to attend at Université Laval its the perfect location, you just walk over. I would recommend the hotel despite the tasteless food from the restaurant, there are other choises in the neighborhood. 더 보기

No 4 star as stated on the web site.

I had a better stay than a late summer stay at same hotel. It was about the rate; and the room. This rate was appropriate for what we got, which was a better room on the third floor, but still in the older part of this hotel. My last stay there was in the late summer and due to that was overpriced. We also got a room on the first floor which was busier […] and noisier. And that room lacked effective access to plugs I actually needed that night for laptop, modem, and cellphone charger. I had none of those problems or experiences this time. Better rate, better room, better plugs access. Closest thing to a complaint was that the water temperature varied quickly with just a small touch. Overall good stay this time. 더 보기

This hotel is rundown, badly in need of a renovation. But the rooms are nice sized.

Hotel Universel is a revamped motel on 2 or 3 floors. It seems to be renovated recently but the colours are so badly chosen that it already looks worn. In our small bathroom, there was practically no place to put our toothbrushes -a shelve is missing . There is a nice little "spa": pool, hot whirlpool, dry and wet sauna, cold dipping pool. I thought that I had a little bit higher quality room. But I stayed in a standard room needing some improvements. I did not have a place to store my cloths, no refrigerator. The toilet and personal care supplies were minimal. Above all, the noise did not allow a quiet night.

We found this Hotel to be very handy. It was easy to get to driving from Montreal it was close to the look bus stop and close to a grocery store and restaurant. Did not find a good pub for a drink close. The restaurant next door on Monday nights had a lovely meal at half price. This hotel was recommended to us and we are so please we took it.

Very pleased with this hotel and even eating there was great.

This hotel was a surprise to us as we did not know what to expect and also did not know how far away from the Old City of Quebec it was Take a bus to the old city for $2.75 its cheaper than a Taxi and it takes you directly to the walled city -it could not be easier. The Hotel has free Internet b ut watch the French Key board its a doozy. It never FAILS […] TO AMAZE ME WHEN management WONT CHANGE THE WORN OUT KEY BOARD WITH A NEW $10 REPLACEMENT why iss this SO ??? DO not have breakfast at El Greco next door--the scramble eggs are like rubber and the selection skimppy and the cost outweighs the low quality of their product -too expensive for what you get. It looks incredible inside.

The Room was definitely a cut above for the (very affordable) price catagory and cleanliness was top notch. A couple of minor cautions - the hotel is used extensively by Asian tour groups, so when the busses are either arriving or departing, don't expect to find a luggage cart and do expect minor delays. Secondly, the indoor pool looks inviting enough […] in the pictures but it is not huge and always seemed to be crowded, especially with children between 10am and 7pm. The extra chlorine needed severely chokes the atrium on all floors. We chose not to swim. The restaurant seemed expensive, but less than 1 km down the street was a Tim Hortons, a local Quebec fast food restaurant that serves a good breakfast till noon, and the best MacDonald's we've experienced - they actually have knives and forks and are holding out on the old breakfast time of 11:00am instead of the newer 10:30 cutoff. The rest of MacDonald's could take a lesson. It is an easy and most pleasant 15 minute drive from this hotel to the Old City, passing through a neighborhood of mansions, the Plains of Abraham, Museums and historic sites. Despite all the cautions, we found city parking when we needed it (and this was August), so no need to abandon your car. Also, plenty of free parking at the hotel and free wi-fi. We found Quebec City to be a very attractive destination, but 'touristy' and expensive. In the end we felt lucky to be in nice hotel at an afforbable price. One other tip, if the Ballet Russe Exhibition is still on - do not miss it! 더 보기

Overall, an excellent hotel -- found the main pool and hot tub, elevator, and room to be top notch, giving the hotel a very modern, clean feeling. I imagine the remainder of the hotel is nice judging from the lobby and pool area, as well as the exercise room. If they try to put you in a room on the bottom floor you might want to get on the upper floors or go to another hotel.

Great stay. Front desk could be more helpful and knowledgeable.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel with my family. The room was attractive and pretty comfortable, the only problem we encountered was an electrical generator that turned off automatically several times, so we weren't able to turn on some of the lights on one side of the room and it also turned the AC off. The hotel's indoor pool was beautiful. The staff […] was very helpful. And I would have loved to have gone to the attached Greek restaurant, except that I was traveling with a 2 and a 4 year old who can be picky eaters. 더 보기

The Hotel was comfortable. Our room faced other rooms that were across the hall. Windows did not face the outdoors.

Great Location close to Laval. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but the rooms are clean and in good repair. The staff are helpful. Indoor pool and sauna, if you are into that sort of thing. Overall a pleasant experience.

I picked this hotel due to its price and the inclusion of the Scandinavian Spa set up. The hotel is very nice and was in excellent condition apart from the broken shower curtain rail (it was obvious that someone previous had broken it and that no one had pointed it out to the hotel). We were very happy with the hotel although it is a bit far away from […] the main sites and restaurants being approximately 1 hour walk into the old town. With fine weather it is a nice walk. It is worth the trip to the other restaurants as the hotel restaurant was nothing to write home about. The spa set is very nice, although the so called heated spa was only tepid at best given the cold temperatures outside. The steam rooms however more than made up for this. 더 보기

Fantastic. Booked it online using a 'last minute' link on this site, and got a very good deal. See TripAdvisor review for more info. Room had a king size bed and was fully wheelchair accessible (unexpected) so it was larger than the others, but having seen a regular room I would have the same review. We had a small baby so a playpen or two would have […] fit easily in a regular room. Robes are included so you can wear them to and around the amazing pool area, silk flower arrangements were a nice touch, and it was clean, clean, clean, with no smell of smoke anywhere. You must use the pool, saunas or whirlpools, or just chill out on their adirondack chairs and footstools outside the cute infrared or steam saunas. My hubby and I sat out on the leather chairs on the balcony overlooking the pools at around midnight for a little nightcap and noone bothered us; it's a very welcoming atmosphere as long as you're relatively quiet after the pool area closes. The rooms overlooking the pool area cost a little more, or are suites. Two internet computers in the lobby for our use, and at least two areas to sit by a gas fireplace if not the atriums overlooking the pools. Their motto is that the little details make the difference; they certainly do. There are a few little details they're missing, but they're minor, such as more towel racks and hooks to hang things, and maybe a painting or two on the walls. Parking is hard to find late at night but we did find one last spot both nights we were there; I think it was a busy weekend for them - there may have been overflow parking somewhere else but we didn't need to ask. Breakfast is not included but they do have one there onsite in the restaurant for purchase; had our own so can't comment on that. I briefly heard a child crying but then did not hear another soul all night. Request a renovated room. Ours overlooked a roof just next to the pool suites, on the 4th level. I had booked a smokers room with a king-size bed, It appears tha there has never been that type of room at the Universel. Only the suites have both, I had to pay an extra $50.00 for a suite in order to have a king size bed, I am not impressed!

The hotel was as it was described on the Web site. We have a baby and therefore needed extra space for his playpen. The king room that we stayed in had more than enough space for all of our things, including our large stroller. The pool is small, but more than large enough for a nice swim. The restaurant Le Greco is nothing to write home about, but […] Mondays are half price. The location is great as it is right next to l'Universite Laval and other schools, only 20 minutes to Vieux Quebec by car and there is a grocery store, a pharmacy as well as a few fast food restaurants all within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Universel and would go again as long as we could get the Hotels.ca discount. I do not believe it is worth the Hotel Universel Web site price as I would rate this a 3 star hotel. 더 보기

The first room had a leaking roof where the ceiling ripped open behind closed curtains. The heating system was very noisy and kept us awake. We moved to second room which was old and beat-up, the heating would not control by thermostat so we had to manual control the room temperature. The rooms where not next to each other, as we requested. The check in was originally at 4 pm but they checked us in at 2 pm. No microwave oven no fridge, the bed was not done properly a lot different from the other room. Also the pillows on the bed where pathetic and it did not have a dresser. This hotel is rated 3 star, but it is at the high end. It was better than expected. It is very convenient for those wanting to be in the western suburbs, Université Laval and the commercial newer part of the Basse-Ville. Things to watch are parking outdoors only, limited choice of meals for breakfast, little counter space in the otherwise attractive […] bathrooms, and no nick-nack-newspaper shop inside, but these are nits 더 보기
