Old hotel, careless staff, no towels upon arrival, bad beds and the list goes on. Only positive is the location

Good hotel in excellent location. Small room.

Location was amazing. Very easy check in and luggage storage. Bed was uncomfortable; Rick hard with one very flat pillow.

Good rooms and a good location. The elevators are the big issue with them being slow and busy and one of four out of order.

Great location. Decent hotel. Stayed here before, and would stay here again.

The hotel is situated in a good location, close to,shops bar's and the west end for the theatres, its just a short walk from the tube station, the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and spacious, the breakfast is a continental breakfast, you can also have a cooked breakfast.

It was fine just as a place to get your head down for a sleep, but not somewhere I'll be rushing back to. Reception feels very modern, which misleads you into what to expect from the rest of the hotel. "Classic" rooms are incredibly basic - almost feels like they've put two hotels together here, as the other rooms look much nicer. Wasn't particularly clean, but in the end it was okay. Staff were good.

Great location, and close to many sites.. When we arrived they had no double rooms left and so we had to have a twin room, which they tried to play off as an upgrade. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room meaning we went and bought ourselves a kettle and some cups etc.

Its a nice hotel with a great location! The only negative is that the plumming needs to be repaired due to water that accumulates in the shower and the sink.

My first room had mould in the shower. But once brought to the attention of staff I got a new room which had no issues Super good location and convenient for solo travellers

Excellent location. I had a twin bed room and it was small but had everything you need. Water was instantly hot (which isn't always a given) and there was a safe and extra blanket in the room. Only issue is the elevators are painfully slow. One day I had to wait over 5 minutes for one to show on my floor. A lot of people using the stairs but they are not well marked and are very twisty.

I would come back to this hotel. The location is very central and the price is decent. My room did not have air conditioning and it was quite warm but there was a fan. They do charge for early check in and late checkout. After a long journey from the states i had to pay the early check in fee which was a bit annoying because many hotels will waive this if the room is ready. Overall it was fine

Okay hotel, you get what you pay for. Good for the price. One lift was almost never working. Every day there was a line to get an elevator. When we checked in our room wasn’t ready (it was 7 pm). Could give us another room with 2 single beds for one night and have us change the next day. We opted out on that and just stayed in the 2 single beds our whole stay. There was a huge stain on the carpet and dark marks on the walls. Except waiting times for the elevator, other than that was good. Excellent location for transport and great area for west end shows, shopping and food.

My first two nights I was in an older room. There wasn’t even a coffee pot that was a bit of a bummer. Lots of noise and construction going on all night long the rooms without air-conditioning. You have to open up the window so it’s very noisy. Cute little bar and café on site. I moved to another room for two more nights, and that was a much better room higher up with air-conditioning bigger and worth the extra cost. With all that being said, it’s all about location, location, location, and this one has it. There’s a Mark and Spencer‘s right across the street shopping pharmacy and all the food restaurants, pubs, music, plays and comedy clubs all a 10 minute walk.

First impression of the hotel was great, reception/lobby looked modern and very clean. Checking in was difficult, there were no key cards available at the self check in on the 2 occasions I tried and a very long queue at "executive reception". The room was small very hot and the window barely opened. One small pillow was provided so had to ask at reception for more. There were always massive queues for the lifts and being on the 5 floor (there are 11) we wanted to use them. Location however was great, the price was good for a central London hotel, would maybe use again but would check other options first.

The room was okay and clean. It was quite hot in the room (even with a fan). As well, light seemed to stream through the windows even with the blinds shut which meant we didn't have the best nights of sleep, but overall it was fine. The bathroom and shower was fine, but the shower drain was very slow. The property condition is a bit worn, but the location is really good. So because of that I would probably stay here again.

No kettle, cups etc, fire alarm went off 8am, after making our way down the fire escape, kitchen staff telling us no fire, I'm not putting myself and my son at risk, went to meeting point, no staff communication.

The location of the hotel was perfect. However the room which we had been allocated was in the old part of the hotel (I presume) as the room and decor was tired and dated, the safety catch in the window was broken and there was no air con in the room. The carpets in the corridors were obviously stained. This was a stark difference to a clean bright and modern reception area. There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room which was a disappointment as this was not mentioned in the website. The lifts were slow and poor, which was difficult due to a member of the part having mobility issues and was forced to use the stairs as the lift service was not suitable for a hotel of that size.

Excellent location for exploring London especially Covent Garden and theatres. Very easy self check in with helpful staff on hand. Room was basic but clean and comfortable, fine for a couple of nights. Long queues for lifts which took ages to arrive; not sure if they were working. Lugging suitcases up and down stairs was not the best. 2 restaurants - the main restaurant had a lovely outside space to sit with a glass of wine. Reasonably priced wine considering the location. The 24hr restaurant has a great menu for eating after the theatre when many restaurants have closed.

The shower , TV , refrigerator , aircon and loo paper were all excellent in our Classic Double room but the bed was creaky and placed against a side wall - we are in our seventies and didn't appreciate the assault course . Things we had come to take for granted on our many previous stays at what we now call STG have to be requested from Reception for the Classic room : kettle , cups , extra pillow , room clean , towel change ( the last two never happened ) No concierge now - He always answered every question ! We drank in the hotel bar and dined in both restaurants - all excellent but £19 for breakfast seemed a bit steep . STG location - almost in Oxford Street - is great ; since the advent of the Elizabeth Line , just 2 tube stops from Paddington . I would recommend this hotel on that basis alone but be sure of what to expect !

Hotel room was basic without a kettle or air conditioning. The location to theatres and Oxford Street is brilliant. If you’re not going to spend much time in the room then it’s fine. Just very dated and a bit crusty dusty in places. The hotel charges £10 to store your luggage too which I feel is an unnecessary cost when most hotels do this for free.
Verified review

6/10 Good

Great location for The Dominion Theatre and the tube, lots of food and bar options nearby. The street felt safe and room wasn’t too noisy late at night or early morning. The room itself had not been dusted for months so away from the bed, floor and bathroom it was dusty, including the fan which we wanted to use! There are charges for everything that did not appear on Hotels.com including luggage storage £10/item and early check in before 14.15 (Hotels.com booking said check in was 14.00).

The hotel is very central for a few days in London. The reception staff were lovely and very helpful. We had stayed here last year and even though there had been renovations we felt we got a better room with amenities last year. This year room was smaller, hardly any natural light (not good for somebody with dodgy eyesight) and was very disappointed that the rooms were no longer equipped with a fridge. Also for the size of the hotel we felt more lifts would have been useful. That being said if you are going to be out all day and evening exploring London and just need a room to sleep and shower this could be for you.

Negatives - little basic and a bit tired. No tea or coffee making facilities and no way of controlling room temperature other than a plug in heater or a plug in fan. Positive side - fantastically situated. Most we travelled on the tube was 4 stops. Nearest tube station is literally a few hundred yards up the road. Nearby cafes and supermarkets and easy walking distance to Carnaby Street and Covent Garden Will definitely use again. Positives outweigh the negatives
