Nice spot in Osaka
Saw many reviews about the locatilon being 'right on the subway' but the subway entrance right on the street is into the maze that is the Osaka station, and still a 5-10 min walk underground to get to your platform. We got lost so many times trying to come back out that entrace at the end of the day LOL. An good spot in Osaka, on a side street. Need to take an elevator up and It can get crowded with large families checking in or out with tons of luggage. Staff spoke English and was nice and responsive to our questions. We sent our bags there ahead of us with no issues and they helped us send our bags to the airport. The room was nice and clean with nice amenities and a tub. The one thing we didn't like is there would be long waits for the elevators and sometimes they'd be so full with large families that we had to wait for 1 or 2 elevators. Didn't use the onsen but there would regularly be folks in PJs in the elevator.

Not for us
Picked this hotel because of the very high ratings, unfortunately for us we did not experience the same. Our room was dirty, not too bad but obvious stains etc. we were “upgraded” to a room on the top floor, same room as we booked but just many more floors to travel and you needed to take a cut lunch to get down to the ground in the mornings. Also not the hotels fault but we found it impossible to get into any restaurant in the area, all saying they are full, need reservation, when asking at the hotel reception for recommendations we were directed to the train station food court. The rest of our trip has been amazing and all hotels have met or exceeded expectations but this one, not for us.

Hotel Monterey - a great hotel
Checking in at the Hotel Monterey Le Frere was a very straight forward process! Elevator brings you to reception immediately. Because of it's central location in Kita Ward it was a very popular location. The hotel and the room was very clean and spacious for chain hotels of this nature. With a Lawson and a pharmacy in the same building space, convenience was at an all time high. I would gladly stay here again it was a lovely experience.

Ideally located for Osaka sightseeing
The hotel is a short walk from Osaka station making it a convenient hub from which to go sightseeing in Osaka, Nara, Kobe and a trip to Universal Studios. It is clean and comfortable with an excellent breakfast buffet in a large and smartly decorated dining room. The bath timing is about three-quarter size but very deep. There is a laundry room with three washing machines (Y300 per wash including detergent) and three dryers (Y100 per 30 minutes). The only negative points I have is that the only access to reception is via just three lifts at street level, and the reception area is too small for the size of the hotel and number of guests. Often the lift doors opened to a reception area full of guests and luggage.
