Great welcoming staff. Old hotel, old spots of pee on the floor from dogs, old furniture all togheder. Old but clean. The owners must to invest, the staff does the best with what do they have. Food excelent. Also a big problen: NO Heating source available in the room. The radiators was cold, the windows (in multiple rooms which I tested so far) are NOT closing properly in order to keep the cold outside. So please invest in windows and heating, and maybe new carpets on the floors.

The staff at this hotel are simply excellent. If they said something would be done or prepared, it was. Breakfast is seriously good with sufficient staff unobtrusively on hand to assist with any questions or help needed. Our bedroom, bed linen and bathroom were very clean. A hotel stay like hotel stays used to be. We will definitely return.

Booked a cosy room with a sea view though currently there is scaffolding on one side of the hotel but still ok. Our room was basic and very dated. Bed was comfy enough though and the shower also good. The tv in our room only had bbc channels unfortunately. Room was okay for a one night stay.

Great stay, staff were amazing, check in was a breeze, including a comp upgrade for our 20th anniversary. Only stayed for one night; but could have happily stayed longer. Room was immaculate, view is stunning across Whitby and the Abbey. Cooked breakfast was great, poached eggs on request, missed out on the fruit, but that’s what a lie in does. A lie in caused by a really comfortable bed, best night asleep in a good while! Thanks Royal Hotel, we really appreciated being looked after so well!

Bathroom poor, decorating shabby, peeling paint taps and shower valve really difficult to operate, no shelf for toiletries dangling earth cables under basin, suggest a better electrical contractor because this is a recent addition. Shower waste blocked. The recent window replacement is poorly installed . Better clerk of works required. Dining hall is impressive and well presented good breakfast.

Stayed here before and love this hotel but our room this time was tired especially the bathroom. The bath was old with high sides which made getting into and out of the bath shower difficult and risky especially as we are now pensioners so don’t bounce well!! One other moan.. the morning breakfast which was great lacked proper coffee machine, nearly every hotel we have stayed at have a bean to cup machine available. Instant coffee is naff to be honest! Views from the hotel and staff are great though

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment but the rooms that are finished, and the public areas are great. The new Fat Badger bar has fantastic decor and atmosphere. The staff were very helpful, exemplified by the manager vacating her parking space when I was struggling to find a space.

The bar is excellent The evening meal was ok but pricey The staff are very attentive The room was very clean but the floor is at an incredible angle (room 136) meaning the bed was tipped to one corner so I woke up with a headache and backache so chose to go for a walk rather than have breakfast. I would definitely stay again but would have to insist on a bed where my head was higher than my feet .... I only ever sleep with 1 pillow so more pillows is not an option. ⭐⭐⭐ Out of 5 based on my mood this morning didn't complain .. learn and carry on 👍

The room was clean but tiny and the floor sloped. The bed was ok and bathroom was pretty good. The room is listed as having toiletries - there is one wash for both hair and body that is all. It’s an old building and there was a draft from the window and it was very noisy (wedding reception just below our room with music til midnight) ear plugs would have been good. The bar and restaurant were lovely and breakfast delicious. It’s a good location. You need to book parking spots and there are only a few, the overflow was also full so we ended up in the pay and display across the road (this was fine and £13 for 24 hours).

I booked two family rooms for 1 night and was pleasantly surprised at how big and modern the rooms were. A king size bed in bedroom and bunk beds in separate space meant a.comfortable night for our family. The hotel car parks were full but we easily parked in the pay and display outside hotel. Breakfast was lovely, a good selection of hot and cold food. I would definitely would recommend this hotel.
