Perfect really apart from late breakfast time

Lovely place, great food, but breakfast at 8am is too late for business folks. Also the young lady waiting on hasn't tasted all the desserts, how can she advise the customers properly?

Little gem within easy reach of Stamford

What a lovely place! Very welcoming, breakfast was excellent and the chef kindly chopped up a sausage for our dog which was a nice surprise. Our room was very spacious, ensuite shower room was fine and we had great views over fields and the river. The village is charming but be aware there are no amenities. Short drive from Stamford and Rutland Water so a great base for exploring the area. Would highly recommend.

4/10 Fair

closed accomodation

highly disappointed having booked this accomodation for a solo traveller, to receive a call several hours later to advise that the pub would not be open as it was a monday and pin code access would be available with key for room being in door. we were the only occupant within the hotel and it was a very unnerving experience. fortunately our operative on that day was a male, it wouldn't have been very pleasant if it had been a female.

The staff still work for you AFTER you leave.

An excellent stay in this decent value hotel. We were on a family road trip and the staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was as pleasant as possible . This was emphasised by a telephone call to our car 20 minutes AFTER we left on our journey home . Some important medication had been inadvertently left behind and the staff were anxious to inform us as soon as possible. We were about to quickly return and retrieve the meds . Thanks again to the team .

4/10 Fair

There was a revolting smell in the car park which we think was from an overflowing septic tank. On the Friday the loud music from the bar, which we could clearly hear in our room, went on until 11.13 p.m. keeping us awake. When we went down to breakfast on Saturday at 9.00 a.m. the door to the bar/restaurant was locked and we had to knock and wait to get in. We were told they did not know what time we would want breakfast and we should have been asked when we checked in which we were not. As other guests did not want breakfast until 10.00 a.m. they were not intending to open until then. (Hotel information states breakfast is from 8 a.m. on Saturdays). When we commented on the loud music the previous night, we were told the music had to stay on until all customers were gone. On the Saturday evening, we had friends join us for dinner. When they left at 9.50 p.m. we stepped outside to say goodbye to them. When we tried to return to the bar five minutes later, the staff had locked the doors behind us! (There were three customers still in the bar). We had to knock on the window to get back in. We were intending to have another drink before bed, but were told they were now closed - before 10 p .m. on a Saturday night!!

Good pub grub at a decent price. Barmaid lauren was fantastic had a fewcdrinks in the bar was really nice. Breakfast goid value for money. Enjoyed our nights stay.

2/10 Poor

Bed wasn't horizontal it followed the slope of the floor which made the foot end significantly higher than the head end. The owner and staff member used some wooden placemats to raise the headend but it wasn't high enough and we ended up having to sleep with our head at the foot end. Mattress was very uncomfortable as were the pillows. Insufficient cooling provided by one fan . We couldn't leave windows open as there weren't any safety chains on them and they were easily accessible from the outside. The nighttime temperature didn't drop under 29c . Toilet seat was broken. Had a shower and discovered there wasn't any soap in the dispenser. Dusty windowsills and a headboard that you could write your name in the dust across the top. Cobweb from wall to wardrobe and another one across a window frame. We booked two nights accommodation but after one unbearable night we checked out and found more suitable accommodation elsewhere.Would not stay here again and wouldn't recommend this to anyone else.

6/10 Good

We booked two nights and the room size was OK, very dated decoration. Not used to a double bed when there was room for a kingsize bed, shower was trickle of water and mould between the tiles, Rubbish was still in the pedal bin in bathroom and toilet was not particularly clean. No spare toilet roll and had to go to the bar to get a replacement. Paid extra for breakfast the first morning which was disappointing so went out to find breakfast elsewhere on the second morning
Valerie, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Entrance area to rooms poor decor & cleanliness. Dining area floor had not been cleaned for a couple of days. No housekeeping in rooms due to lack of staff. The owner & manager were friendly & helpful. Food that was offered was good.

Lovely place to stay, great staff, great food, comfy clean room, decent shower and a bath which is great (Premier Inn take note)
Bob, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

It`s getting there.

friendly and helpful staff, bedroom was clean and adequate for a short stay if a bit noisy as it overlooked the main road. We had some bathroom issues in that there was no hot water to the basin or bath (there was a shower) plus the toilet seat was in need of replacement however issues are bound to occur in this trade and its how you deal with them, this was dealt with financially and very quickly. The menu was limited but the food was excellent, breakfast was also very good, no continental option though. A lot of effort has gone into the "pub" side of things, if the care and attention carries on into the accommodation then this will be a winner.

Just spent a quiet and comfortable night at The Royal Oak… Room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed two very tasty meals, dinner and Breakfast. My husband had the Muton Burger for dinner which he said was probably the best burger he had ever eaten.. I had a lovely vegetarian option and desert. Thinking dinner couldn’t be beaten, the next morning we had a fantastic full breakfast with sausages and eggs, sourced locally. We read the reviews on The Royal Oak and can say that if you are looking for a quiet, comfortable time away with home comforts and good food, give The Royal Oak a try.

Beautiful historic pub close to Stamford. Staff were very attentive. Lovely cosy open fire fireplace in bar. I would stay here again.

6/10 Good

Lovely rooms in a pub with a good restaurant. Don’t expect a quiet early night or a lie-in in the morning . The music from the pub can be clearly heard in the bedroom and comes on at 8.00 and isn’t switched off until 22.00 or even 23.00. The reaction of the owner when asked to turn the music down was “don’t know what you’re used to, that’s how we do things here in the pub”!
