Love Canterbury!

Amazing location in the centre of historic Canterbury and Sanjeewa was most helpful

A real nice stay downtown Canterbury

Very friendly host who takes away all problems challenges during your stay and gives you good directions for staying in Canterbury. Breakfast is good and the rooms are classical English style well equiped (fridge for cooling your drinks and have a drink/aperative in the hotel room). If you go to Canterbury go here

A unique historic building to stay in. Location brilliant for access to Canterbury's historic heart. Manager very accomodating and helpful.

AVOID. Generally tired, old and run down. Half expected this for the price so not that bothered about that. the location was good. The problem.... bedbugs. Lots of the horrible little things. We've videos of them all around the room and unfortunately we didn't realise until the morning. It's clear there's been an infestation for some time - there's actually reviews that we missed discussing this. It's clear though that this recent infestation has also been going on for a while... pale grey dried blood stains were visible on virtually all linen (easy to see when you look for it). The hotel has ignored all attempts to discuss this issue.

Sanjeewa was a very welcoming host and very kind. We could have left our bags to collect later but we were due to leave Canterbury. It was quiet at night despite warnings of noise on the website. It is very convenient for the City, 5 minutes walk from both the Marlowe Theatre and the Cathedral. The rooms and decor are a little dated but perfectly fine for a short stay.

Only desperate travelers need apply

Duvet covers stained, walls had food splashed on them, none of the furnishings had been updated for decades, the beds needed new mattresses, the shower gave either very hot or very cold water…

Good stay

Very good stay near to town centre. Parking abit far from location if you have lots of luggage. Breakfast was solid continental options.

Two days in Canterbury

We were in Canterbury on business and spent very little time at the hotel. Continental breakfast was fine, the room was fine, but the bathroom very tight. Overall, had a good time. Friendly staff and excellent access to the city. Very close to the theatre and Cathedral.

Situated in the heart of Canterbury city centre. The hotel itself is little dated but clean. Creaky floorboards.

Safe and clean

Sanjeev was kind, present and available. While the room was clean, the mattresses were not comfortable. Be mindful of packing small and not taking full suitcases up 3 flights of winding stairs. Otherwise a clean place to stay in Canterbury.

The owner was very friendly, lovely and welcoming. However the noise was absolutely horrific the worst night sleep. Could hear every door bang

Great location and value for money

The hotel is very well located in the centre of Canterbury, only a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Sanjeewa, who runs the hotel, was very friendly, welcoming, and always helpful during our stay. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Though the decor could use a bit of an update, this didn't affect our stay at all, and you can hardly expect more at such a reasonable price! A continental breakfast was also included with toast, crumpets, muffins, yoghurts, cereal, jams, honey, etc. Though there wasnt any parking at the hotel we booked parking a minute's walk away through Just Park, which worked well for us. Sanjeewa did contact me prior to our stay though, advising about parking and offering to let us drop off luggage to save us having to walk with it. We all really enjoyed our stay at Greyfriars Lodge and would happily visit again in the future.

The lodge was close to the high street. It was in need of some updating. OK value with some small attention to detail items to look at.

A good example of you get what you pay for, relatively cheap for the Canterbury area but then it wasn’t a great place to stay. Rooms were very small in desperate need of decorating, my TV had been taped up moments before being shown to my room which I wasn’t impressed about, breakfast was extremely poor limited options and no effort made.. I will say though the staff or staff member was friendly.

6/10 Good

The property was clean & location is also good. But there seem to be no staff after evening, so even we need something we couldn't find anyone to talk. We couldn't warm our food due to kitchen being closed and no one around. Microwave should be available all the time as it's an essential item. Also in the breakfast, there was no egg, which is disappointing. Egg is the most important part of breakfast and it should be included in the menu.

Great location

It may not be luxury but for a night or two you could do much worse. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Amazing location just off the Main Street. A few mins walk to all the shops and bars and a stones throw from the cathedral. Very quiet at night (apart from a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms as walls not the thickest). Very small but functional en-suite and the shower had as much power as a dribbly baby. Plentiful hot water tho which is good. TV, mini fridge and kettle on the room along with a tower fan. Bed is comfy enough but an extra pillow would have been nice. Breakfast is hams and cheeses. Bread and crumpets for the toaster. Butter, jams and various spreads are available. Fruit and yoghurts plus various cereals. Fruit juices, tea and coffee too. All perfectly agreeable. Use them for parking and you get a cheap rate at a nearby carpark, about 5 mins stroll from the hotel. Would we return? probably.

The hotel is definitely convenient; it was a ten minute walk from the station and is located RIGHT in the centre of the old town. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. The breakfast was simple (toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt). The first morning the dining room was busy; the fruit and yogurt disappeared quickly and weren’t replenished. The second morning was quieter and staff had time to refill things. The rooms were clean, but shabby. Wine stains on the curtains, holes in the wall and broken hooks in the bathroom. There wasn’t anywhere to put personal items in the bathroom. A small table or shelf could have served that purpose. The stairs in this property are VERY narrow. It was difficult to go up them with even a small suitcase. Larger suitcases would have been a problem, In summary, this property is just okay. Clean and welcoming but presentation needs work.

You get what you pay for.

There are good and bad things here. The good thing is that it is very centrally and within two minutes of town. The bad things are that it is tired and my room was triangular in shape, making access to the bathroom (I am being generous, it was a cupboard) tricky. The 'Parking Available' feature is misleading. I was guided to a public car park, and by guided I was blindfolded and left to my own endeavours, which was a good six minute walk away. The worse thing though was the bin man arriving outside at 3am. This is not thr fault of the hotelier and I appreciate that getting such jobs done during the day is impossible given the layout of the town, but still. The binman must have taken 20 minutes. All in all, could be worse. Arrive by taxi and lower your expectations and you will be fine. I won't however stay here again.

Absolutely terrible, we didn't stay the night. The hotel had more creaks than a haunted house. The smell of old was a hell no, it could of been death... we couldn't be sure. We didn't hang around for too long before ordering a stay at the Premier Inn a little further up the road. There was a deep dark red/brown colour on the net curtains, we were 100% that was blood. The toilet was small and cramped, we believe people missed the toilet and aimed for the floor as the stench was unbearable. Even to stay 10 minutes was unbelievable, my partner even sprayed her perfume around the room but the bad odour was over powering the stench. We had to make up an excuse just to leave the hotel. I paid for the death room for about £70, non refundable.... they can use that money for the demolition needed. I paid £119 for Premier Inn and that included all you can eat breakfast, a no brainer. Stay away from this poor b&b, not worth your hard earned cash. 3 Stars?? Were they on their last breath???

Quant and close to theatre

Stayed in same room as before. Nice and clean. Was hot as no air conditioning but fan was provided. Quant and cheap, close to theatre. Everything you need for an overnight stay. Sainsbury's just up the road too for snacks.
