It's been a few years since I was at UMD visiting, and the big new hotel across from campus seemed like a big win, walking distance and all. I got into my room and was impressed with the size of the room (and the generosity of the number of coffee packets for the excellent espresso machine). However it quickly became clear that the big room, with lots of nooks, is not being well cleaned. There were little bits of plastic in one corner, hairs in another, a kleenex under the edge of the sofa, and just generally little dirt here and there. Not gross, but a bit off. Certainly not confidence inspiring. Then had trouble getting a receipt on checkout, no printed one was available, so I left an email to get one sent, it didn't happen, left an online message on the website, nope, called and got a reservations person who said I should ring the front desk and couldn't figure out I wasn't in the room, and finally did get to the front desk (when "operator" option rang for nearly a minute and finally gave me a person). They got me a receipt immediately. I'd probably be willing to stay here again, so convenient to campus, but would likely check the room over and complain if it wasn't clean, and certainly wouldn't leave without a receipt.
