Smithfield Inn is in a great location of town, walkable to shops, restaurants and a brewery. It is an old building, no elevators and most rooms are on the second floor. Restaurant and bar at the Inn are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so keep that in mind. You can only get ice at the bar. We had a problem with the air conditioning in our room and we were able to change rooms after one night. Parking convenient, voucher for breakfast at cafe 1 block away. Staff in restaurant/bar and housekeepers were very friendly. Weird check in after hours, they give you a code to get in the door and leave key in envelope on a table in the hallway. No other information given. The Inn keeper called us prior to arrival to explain the door code. I spoke to her several times during our stay and ran into her once as she was leaving. I'm not sure if she ever comes into the Inn. It felt like we were the only guests, so I'm not sure why we got the room with the broken A/C and very small room (Sprigg room).
