We recently stayed at Abode Manchester to celebrate my 30th birthday and had high hopes for a comfortable, enjoyable weekend. While our initial room didn’t match what we had booked online, the staff responded quickly and moved us to the correct room without any fuss. The room itself was spacious, and the bathroom was also a good size.
Several issues impacted our overall experience. Most notably, the room had no working aircon.- only a small plug-in cooler. We later learned from staff that an electrical fault, ongoing for months, was the reason. To make matters worse, the windows were sealed shut, leaving the room with no ventilation- an especially serious issue during the 25+ degree heat of our stay. This made it extremely uncomfortable to get ready or sleep and was particularly difficult for my friend, who has asthma.
Another issue was the towels, which didn’t appear or smell clean. I’d recommend bringing your own.
What’s most disappointing is that none of this was mentioned during the booking process. The hotel’s website still shows photos and features that no longer reflect its current state. This lack of transparency does a disservice to guests and needs urgent updating to better manage expectations.
That said, the hotel staff were excellent-friendly, helpful, and incredibly patient. It’s clear they’re doing their best under challenging circumstances, and the service we received was far better than the condition of the hotel itself. They were, frankly too good for it.
