Top landmarks in Tarapoto

Tarapoto and related destinations

Tarapoto is well-known for its attractions such as Plaza de Armas de Tarapoto and Laguna Azul.

Tarapoto sits on the edge of the vast jungles of eastern Peru. It's the closest place you can fly to after your forays into the rainforests of the Amazon near Iquitos, in order to reconnect with Peru's road network.

There's a wonderfully laid-back vibe here, plenty of street art, local markets, as well as restaurants serving delicious regional specialities, and bars serving drinks made from soaking jungle roots in cane liquor.

If you come here, stay at El Mirador. There's a terrace with amazing jungle views and the breakfast they serve is probably one of the best I've eaten in Peru.
