It needed cleaning! It could have been charming although rustic. By accident we met an older man whose family owned the building. He grew up there and was certainly sad to see it in such careless condition. So many missed possibilities.

A great little old style hotel in the Centro
An old style Mexican hotel in the Historico Centro of Merida at a reasonable price. I stayed here 20 years ago and it hasn't changed much since then and that's a good thing! I stayed in one of the rooms on the first floor which open unto the coutyard - the rooms are not large but the ceilings have to be close to 20 feet high, the doors, furniture, and the paneling are constructed of deep brown wood. The bathroom is small but the shower was hot and the water pressure excellent. The reception was friendly and efficient and the staff were eager to help. Just walk out the front door and you are only three blocks to the Main Plaza.

Great location
Location perfect in historical district - restaurants and excellent museums close by. In one of the safest cities in Mexico. Music events frequently. The staff were helpful with getting boarding passes. And of course the price is outstanding.

Old hotel, great location and price.
Neat old building converted to a hotel. Our room was on the lower inner court yard. Very quiet at night. Nice patio area for reading and meeting other travelers. Good breakfast but more choices if it's not included with the room. My brother had the suite with the original 20' ceilings. Downside was no coffee in the room and our ceiling fan didn't work (AC was good).

2/10 Poor

Drywall and gardens failing downward
The hotel was very disappointing based on the pictures from the website that I booked through hotels.com. The attractiveness from the pictures was the main reason I choose this hotel. The gardens were uncared for, overgrown, unattended. The room had drywall peeling from it. The bathroom towels were old, fraying, gray and luxurious at all. There were only two towels in the room. The TV remote came without batteries. There was one container of water downstairs in the lobby area that was mostly empty while we were there and cups we had to request. I wouldn't stay there again and or recommend it to anyone. I was very grateful for the kindness, generosity of David the front desk clerk who's just in his second week on a new job. He's wonderful. It was disappointing staying there, after staying the weekend before in Merida at another hotel in the same area that hotels.com offered a secret pricing. The previous hotel was outstanding. Unfortunately this one not so much.

Old hotel... pictures a bit deceiving.
First room had no hot water. Second room had no toilet seat. 3 beds and only one had a reasonable mattress. It could be charming as it has a lot of character.

Cheap hotel, near to everyplace, pretty patio.
This hotel needs a lot of upkeep! It was a shock to see the room they took us to upon our arrival---not any of the ones shown in the pictures!!! And, I had no idea how to contact Expedia to get another hotel. We had to pay extra to get one of the rooms like the ones in the pictures on Expedia!!! Rooms were very clean, ironed sheets and air conditioning. Very, very loud traffic and air conditioning unit!!! We had also paid for our breakfasts, but that was another disappointment. They didn't have butter two of the three days we ate there and on one day they had no ham. We were not allowed to change from the American Breakfast we had paid for!!! Also had to pay for 1 strip of bacon. Coffee was mediocre and the milk was limited!!! The rest of the days we went to have our breakfast elsewhere. Staff was GREAT!!! Victor was very embarassed when I complained about the restaurant. The toilet did not flush solids away--We had to use the trashcan to put enough water in the toilet to get it to go!!.. It was better than camping out, though.

A charming colonial posada!
The Hotel Posada Toledo was highly recommended to us. It is a 200-year old converted house. Our room was on the ground floor, one king bed and two singles with a sitting area, closet and bathroom. The staff is very helpful and service oriented. There is a communal breakfast area, garden, refrigerator and safe. It is within walking distance of the major plazas, excellent restaurants, a symphony hall and theaters. If you are looking for a modern, upscale accommodation, this is not the place. But for the price and the location, you can't beat it!
