Excellent and friendly staff! Front desk clerks spoke English and took time to explain the hours of operations for the onsen, restaurant and lobby. Check in and out was a breeze! Hotel is in great shape. Bathrooms were recently renovated, and very nicely done. Huge by Japanese standards, too! Room was spacious (easily comfortable for a family of 4 with room for luggage even!) and had an excellent view! Fridge and tea was in the room as well as towels and robe for the onsen (yukata). Futon mattresses were the best I've slept on in Japan, although I did double them up (personal preference). View of the ocean is amazing for the price. Road noise was minimal at night, just soft whooshing of passing cars. Road activity picks up around 7am, and some construction started at 9am. Overall, can't beat the price for how great this place is! Location was super convenient too. There's a Jonathan's restaurant and a 711 right downstairs, and downtown Shimoda is a 7-10 minute walk. There's a museum across the street with more food options and a scenic Commodore Perry replica tour ship. Honestly, my stay here was better than the Tokyo Hilton, and at a fraction of the price. This will be my go-to base of operations for all future Shimoda trips.
