IQ The Brickworks
Arrived late and lost not in the best mood after an eleven hour shift and to on the downside it's badly signposted. The lovely man on reception was a credit he give us directions on the phone assured us we would still be ok despite being quarter of an hour late.He sensed we were tired on arrival and quickly checked us in in his lovely charming manner .Now will admit not very impressed the building lovely didn't like the cell like rooms. After an hour and coffee which was provided with two cups and a kettle was thinking could live here quite happily. The cell like feeling only on shared corridor. The room was clean modern with lots of storage and a bathroom the walk in shower was lovely. To top it off we could see York Minster in the not to distant from our window fair comment obstructed by a bit of scaffolding but we got our bearings .To top it off there was a working kitchen next door and an Asda and Morrisons few minutes walk away.To be honest we had a great weekend who stays in the room when visiting York .My advice is take toiletries who doesn't and there's no parking so you can park on a nearby industrial estate for free but at your own risk.

2/10 Poor

Pure ShittyStay!
There was a hole in the toilet bowl, so it leaked everywhere. We told the security guard (as there was no receptionist) and he was unable to swap our room. The mugs were filthy and one had a pubic hair in it. The bed was very uncomfortable. However, Hotels.com handled my complaint well. I've yet to hear back from Pure CityStay themselves.

Great location close to the city centre
Great location really close to the city centre, used as student accommodation during term times. We stayed in August.

Good location but is student accommodation
The listing said it's a hotel. It is NOT a hotel. It is student accommodation rented out in the vacation. Very limited parking. Small room, small bed, but only a 15-min walk from the Minster. Manage expectations! Say it's student digs, etc. and that's why it's cheap.

Not for couples, uncomfortable sleep!
We booked this as a couple for a 2 night getaway based mainly on positive reviews and price. All we needed was a bed for the night whilst we were out in York all day over the weekend. But it was the most uncomfortable 2 nights sleep I think we've ever had (much worse than my own student halls a few years ago). The bed is tiny for two people, definitely not a double! It's sandwiched between a wall and a desk so you can't even have an arm lean out. The mattress was as thin as paper (you could feel the base of the bed) and the pillows were like thin cotton wool. The room was also really hot, even though it wasn't too hot outside, and there was no latch to keep the window open. The room was also clinical with absolutely no decoration, not even a bedside lamp. If you're a single occupant maybe it wouldn't be as bad a stay but as a couple stay away from this place! Not suitable to be used as a hotel in my opinion.

Ok budget option
Great location and modern rooms/ bathrooms, but room and kitchen could have been cleaner and check-in/check-out had been left to security staff who didn't really know what they were doing and couldn't answer our questions. They could also be a bit more generous with provisions - only one hand towel and one very small soap for two people staying for two nights and no way to get any more.

Recommended with some qualification
The hotel is close to the town centre so very convenient for visiting York. The kitchen can be used if one brings the necessary tools, like plates and cutlery. Fridge, freezer and mocrowave were available. The staff was very helpful and friendly, however the hotel's policy about room cleaning needs reviewing. In 6 days, the towels were changed once. Towels were rationed to 3 towels for two people. Apart from emptying the bin no cleaning was done. If there had been cleaning equipment available we could have cleaned our own bath room. The toilet paper was rationed too, in the 6 days we had to get toilet paper twice from the reception. The first time we were given two rolls, but the second roll was confiscated by the cleaning service the next day when they cahnged the towels. This is not behaviour I expect in a place that advertises itself as a hotel and charges like a hotel. The character of student accomodation is not easily shed.

Clean, fresh and good value
The rooms are smallish but don't feel too small because of the light that comes in, and also because of the modern sleek decor. Nice friendly reception staff. Located about 20 mins walk from the city centre.

Modular living in student accommodation.
Very clean, new rooms with small, bright, white en-suite - containing a shower. The bed is mid-sized (good size for one student), and was pushed up against the window. The blind might need to be rolled all the way down, if you find the street lights keep you awake. However, with two in the bed, the person by the window hits the plastic bar at the bottom of the blind, and the loud, "clacking" sound it makes, can wake you up. Kettle, 2 mugs, and plenty of sugars/milk jiggers supplied in the room. Plenty of storage space, and clean, white walls. Room was warm, and had a wall-mounted heater that one could use, if needed. Some might find that the power-point is a little too far from the mirror, for the hairdryer.'s flex. 5 of these rooms in a row, with a roomy kitchen-diner with tv (no tv in rooms, but internet speed is good) at the end of the corridor. Large picture window, large fridge/freezer, a large table, and lots of seating - intended for shared use among the 5 rooms .Very good security, starting with gates across property entrance. Friendly staff at reception.

Not a good experience
It's so far from the city! No air-conditioning, no hair-dryer, no housekeeping, no change of towel. It's a student accommodation. You are expected to bring everything.

Good stay but must have double beds for couples..
The hotel is experimenting with the letting rooms vacated by the students in summer. It is very nice and clean but must cater for couples as the bed is too small for that. The receptionist said that they would have provided a room with double bed had we contacted them on booking.
