Tybee Island is a small barrier island city in Georgia famed for its broad, gold-sand beaches, historic forts and buildings, local history museums, shopping and dining. The famed South Beach area features a scenic pier that stretches over the water as well as a pavilion that showcases live entertainment events. The 19th-century Fort Screven features historic gun batteries and is the home of the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum with a still-functioning lighthouse dating to the 18th century. The local history museum at Battery Garland offers exhibits on hundreds of years of occupation here.

At the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, visitors can take educational beach walks and explore exhibits related to coastal ecology. The Fort Pulaski National Monument is a landmark fort from the Civil War with educational tours and hiking trails. For something fun and whimsical, Fish Art offers displays of interesting local art in its outdoor gallery, plus a junk shop to explore. Kayaking, fishing and boating on Calibogue Sound offers the chance for dolphin watching.
