Overall, we really liked the Hotel Aalders. The location was great -- on a nice quiet street, yet just a couple blocks from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, and an easy walk from Leidseplein with abundant restaurant and night life opportunities. Also, several tram and bus lines stop just a block away. The hotel is in an older building, but is charming and is clean and well maintained. And, fortunately, it has an elevator, unlike some older hotels in Amsterdam. The breakfast is decent.
Our room (deluxe comfort) was comfortable and big enough for our purposes. Only real complaint was the lack of an in-room refrigerator, so we couldn't store snacks or left-overs, or buy our own cold drinks from the store. That may have been their point, because they sell drinks downstairs in their "honesty bar." Those items were not unreasonably priced, but the selection is limited.
I think it would also be good if they updated their rooms with modern key cards, but we got used to using the old fashioned key and leaving it at the desk when we went out.
It's kind of an expensive place, but Amsterdam hotels are just plain expensive, so relative to other places we might have booked, it was a good value.
