I was looking for a hotel near Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz but chose Hotel Monbijou hoping for a quieter stay. Since I’ve always been satisfied with other hotels in the area, Hotel Monbijou was particularly disappointing—especially considering it wasn’t any cheaper.
First of all, there is no minibar or refrigerator. There’s no coffee machine or kettle either. Complimentary water is only provided on the first day, and aside from that, there are no basic amenities offered at all. The towels are so rough they could actually scratch your skin.
Also, if your room is in the so-called “side wing,” you’ll need to take two elevators and walk about three minutes just to reach it. The only redeeming quality of Hotel Monbijou is the friendliness of the staff.
