Our own Steven King experience

Our first surprise was the $75 PER NIGHT pet cleaning fee. This might have been understandable if they had cleaned our room at all during our stay. We didn't see a soul the entire time. We were all alone in the hotel and surrounding restaurant. Good thing we didn't need clean towels. No services whatsoever. They gave us a key and told us to lock up when we left. Kind of like The Shining. But with waves.

Come for the Food, Not the Stay

Got a text from Sam (the manager?) at 4:10 asking what time I wanted to check in. I said “in 2 minutes” since I was literally a street away. When I got to Tavern, it was a little hard to know where to check in since the place is really set up more as a restaurant. I made my way into the lobby and found the hostess stand where I texted Sam where do I go to check in. No response. Some other staff finally came around and got Sam’s attention. To be honest, it felt more like I was an intrusion than a welcomed guest. Interesting sign in the lobby begging (bribing) not to be a Karen; give a good review for a free drink. Maybe earn your guests’ good reviews by providing a great experience? This is the first place I stayed where there is blue painters table on the walls in our room. As I am writing this, Sam just walked past me here on the front porch. No greeting. No smile. This place as the potential to really be something special, but it needs a little TLC to get there. It seems it’s been a little neglected over the years. Good: The location on the water is great. They have a great restaurant and bar with live music. It’s in a good location and the area feels safe and family friendly. Not go good: Photos online don’t really show the current state of property. Some amenities are no where to be found. While there is an espresso bar on the front porch, I have never seen anyone working at it. No daily housekeeping. There is a tip envelope on the dresser though.

Almost there

The building itself is gorgeous. The location is ideal. Restaurant and rooftop bar were top notch. But the room needed some work. Blinds had missing slats which was a big deal since our room faced the rooftop observation deck. TV didnt work at all. AC was just a window unit which didnt really cool the room. The door separating our room from the adjoining room barely closed. Overall, room and bathroom were clean. Bed was comfortable. Extremely affordable for a weekend down the shore. Just needs some updating.

Disappointing stay in Somers Point NJ.

Probably I should have read the amenities more closely as our room was on the third floor and there was no elevator, which made it very difficult for two seniors, 76 and 74, along with our dog. also the mattress should be thrown out as it was terrible. We ordered takeout from the restaurant and my wife's Caesar salad at $12 was crammed into a small 4 inch container. She also ordered 4 shrimp to be put on the salad at $12 and they grilled the shrimp and put on top, wilting the salad. The size was no more than a side salad. Obviously we would not stay there again nor eat in their restaurant and caution others about staying there.

We stayed one night while visiting the beach, and it gave us exactly what we needed. The beds were soft, the room and bathroom were clean, and the room was cool the moment we stepped in, which was necessary after being on the hot beach all day. The restaurant's food was delicious, and it was great to be able to eat and then go right back up to the room to rest. We'll definitely be back next year.

Absolutely no service - bartender was great!

The view from the terrace was amazing, but it appears to be a shared terrace. It was relatively clean, but a bit shabby. Our room was on the 3rd floor so the view was great, however there is no elevator so my wife and I had to lug the bags up to the 3rd floor. Some slats in the window blinds were broken and there was only a room air conditioner. When we awoke and walked around there was no a soul to be found we let a deliver person it since the outer door was locked. No coffee no breakfast.

Quiet Gem on the Bay

Such an amazing place to stay. Great food & drinks. Jessie at the bar was so friendly, Thomas was a delight at check in and really made feel welcome. The views from the top deck are beautiful and the space is so relaxing. I definitely will be back.

The location of the Tavern is great! There are plenty of restaurants and locations for entertainment without going over the bridge. Owner is friendly and staff is also friendly to chat with. For a locally owned business, they are doing a great job supplying multiple perks for a fair cost!

The atmosphere and the hotel itself was so tastefully decorated, it was so different then anything down there. It was classy and unique. Staff and owner were fantastic! The views off the decks were beautiful and you could enjoy happy hour at the restaurant deck downstairs. Will definitely be going back!

I like this place but…

We were in the so called Frank Sinatra room for one night. My daughter in law slept very well and loved the comforter. We found the bed comfortable and also liked the comforter but needed a lighter cover which was not available. Also, the sheets were 100% polyester which is unacceptable. They make you hot!! And one more thing-they really need room darkening shades! The room is bright at 4:00 in the morning! Not good! However, the amenities in the bathroom were great! And the towels were very good and absorbent. It was very nice to have a real refrigerator in the room. But if you say keurig downstairs in the early morning, please fill it with water, have an available plug and coffee with the necessary accompaniments. It’s almost wonderful but not quite..

Room was clean. The overall condition was it needed some cosmetic work. The ceiling was repaired but not painted. Electrical sockets needed covers. Door lock for the room was loose.

This hotel is really unique. The Inn was built in the 1880’s and makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time. It’s in a beautiful location right on the bay with breathtaking views. The owner, Sam, took great care of us including getting up early to make cappuccino on the front porch and share stories about the buildings use during prohibition to smuggle illegal booz into the county.
