Learn more about Leivathos

Leivathos is well-known for its attractions such as Pessada Beach and Avithos Beach. This relaxing city has something for everyone including sights like Trapezaki Beach and Ai Helis Beach within a secluded setting.

A grove of olive trees on Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea. It's a beautiful island full of rural beaches, vineyards and olive groves.

Olive oil is this island's main export with over a million olive trees covering the island. The island used to have over 200 operating oil presses until the devastating earthquake of 1953 dropped the number to around 13.

In August 1953 the area had an astounding 113 recorded earthquakes. The largest measured 7.2 and caused the island to rise by 60 cm. It leveled whole villages and many were killed. A large portion of the survivors left Kefalonia for Athens, UK, America and Australia. The region around the Ionian Islands is the most earthquake prone region spanning from Western Europe to China.
