When you pay €360+ for a room, how much of that should be for a fully-functioning bathroom? I’d say at least 1/3. So, for my stay last weekend, there wasn’t a drop of hot water, not even tepid. A terse apology at ‘reception’ was all that was offered, no suggestion of any kind of partial refund, or maybe the breakfast thrown in as a gesture. Spending the entire day un-washed made for a disappointing experience.
The positives now: position couldn’t be better (five minutes from Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and the Concertgebouw, not to mention Amsterdam’s smartest shopping street. The staff is very friendly, the woman who oversees breakfast (which was very good) was super-nice. The rooms are slightly old-fashioned, but clean and spacious.
But no water …
