A terrible experience
I felt unwelcomed right at the moment when I entered the reception. Apparently they didn't expect us since "according to them" we were not on their reservation list. According to the manager, who directly expressed “being-annoyed” looks to us, it was solely Hotels.com's fault since the agency had often made mistakes and hadn't sent reservation emails properly. I showed the manager the voucher, but he denied to accept it, saying that it was written in Korean. Oh, come on, they only need confirmation number or my name to check the reservation status. While dispute, they didn't show any gesture to sort the problem out, so I finally asked the manager to turn on the computer to show them the reservation confirm on Hotels.com. After a hustle and bustle, we were put to the moldy wet rooms on the lowest floor(half underground). The windows were blocked by bush and fence, which gave me spooky feelings. The manager said sorry and offered an upgrade to a deluxe double on the first floor, but only for the second night. So I had to pay $17 more to move to the room on the 1st floor for the first night. I couldn’t bear the stinging moldy smell and unpleasant condition of the half-underground room.
The deluxe on the 1st floor was spacious, but not as good as I expected since it was again “damp” and the bathroom smelled strange. The manager displayed his courtesy after all, but it couldn’t help me have nicer feelings about the hotel. It was so bad start in the BEAUTIFUL Bagan.
