Pros
Traditional style/look in bedroom
Free bicycles
Cons
Lots of rules and passive aggressive notes
Nothing is included – everything costs extra except bikes
Long way from trains/ferry/restaurants/shops
Very restrictive check in times
Lots of sound bleed to other rooms even when other guests were trying to be quiet – locks and doors are stiff and squeak and bang
Hot water ran out after 1 shower
Not very clean by Japanese standards
No staff to ask for help

Nice clean place, but with a lot of rules that make it a bit strange - and less than user-friendly. Check in isn't until 5pm, they won't even keep your bags, and struggling with their key/storage locker thing was the last thing we wanted after a day of travelling here. It IS a traditional house, very clean which is great, but all too easy to hear other guests.
I arrived there in the evening, and there were a few Chinese guests staying there already. Who you share the room with matters. They were OK. The hostel had a Taiwanese trainee helper. She was mostly just watching You Tube or something on her mobile device at the dining table, keeping guests from using the space. The Japanese hostess seemed to be busy managing more than one hostels in the area, so you may not be available for you all the time. But when she is, she is friendly and helpful. In the hostel, I found more storage cupboards for staff than for guests in both the bathroom and the kitchen. I had an impression that things are designed for staff's comfort rather than guests' comfort. The level of cleanliness was acceptable but not the best. The bath mat that looked and felt like a stone tablet was not my favorite. I much prefer ordinary fabric bath mats. Despite some impactfully negative aspects such as the bathroom being a bit molded and dusted, my stay at this guest house as a whole was not a bad one. It's within a few minutes walk from the nearest bus stop, large-scale supermarket, and the local fish market where you can eat freshest local seafood.
Overall, the guesthouse is clean and comfortable. It felt like home. The staff was friendly and nice. Location is a little bit far from the city center but it can still be found easily if you follow the instruction of the guesthouse. There is a large supermarket nearby so it is pretty convenient. Wish there were more restaurants in the neighbourhood.
