New Territories Attractions

Hong Kong Wetland Park is a conservation area spanning over 10,000 sq m of wetlands and a 60-hectare reserve park with re-created habitats for wildlife. This natural park attracts those interested in discovering a greener side of the city-rich island.

You can spot various species of birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals, thanks to the parkโ€™s many birdwatch towers, hides, and walkways across streams and mangroves. Interactive tools are on hand at the Discovery Centre, which also includes themed galleries, a theatre, and a swamp-style indoor play area for children.

Hong Kong Wetland Park Highlights

Hong Kong Wetland Park offers an opportunity to experience Hong Kongโ€™s wetland ecosystem while also drawing attention to the importance of conservation. There are plenty of educational messages on display throughout the park, along with a resource centre outlining the significance of the wetlands for preservation and biodiversity.

One of Wetland Parkโ€™s most famous inhabitants is Pui Pui, who resides in a 72-sq-m enclosure with her own pool and basking areas. Pui Pui is a saltwater crocodile who was found in 2003 despite Hong Kong not being a natural habitat for these animals. She quickly became a celebrity, with the centre creating a habitat that mirrors her own natural environment.

The park also has around 235 bird species, 150 butterfly species, 9 species of amphibians, 23 different types of reptiles, and 11 kinds of mammals. Summer is a great time to see butterflies and dragonflies, while October to April is when wintering birds arrive for a short stay before migrating again in spring.

Good to Know

Wetland Park covers a wide area in Hong Kong, so itโ€™s a good idea to check out what you want to see on the official website. Itโ€™s also advisable to check the weather forecast โ€“ on a hot day, bring a sun hat, umbrella and sunscreen. Visiting when the tide is low lets you see a greater diversity of birds and crabs at the Riverside Hide and Mangrove Boardwalk.

Hong Kong Wetland Park is mostly outdoors, so bring insect repellent and wear long-sleeved clothing and closed shoes. Admission to Hong Kong Wetland Park costs around HK$30 per adult and HK$15 for children (3โ€“17 years old). For families or group visitors, the park offers family day and group passes at discounted rates.
