Disappointing
Room was large and clean, bed comfortable. Lots of glasses and room service trays in all the corridors. Hotel desperately needs refurbishing, no atmosphere or style to the place. Shame as a waste of a potentially beautiful building

Expensive for the condition of the hotel.
We didn’t know until we arrived the hotel is closing down for a refurbishment and has been bought out. Our bathroom was dangerous. Shower was literally coming away from the wall toilet flush didn’t work every time. Bedroom dirty. We don’t mind tired as long as things work and are clean.

Stunning old building & comfy stay
Really enjoyed our little overnighter here. Absolutely stunning building. Nice size room with high ceiling in gorgeous Tudor style. Bed comfy nice bedding. Read some bad reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Yes the carpet is a little old and the chair by the window but it’s all part of the charm. Large modern bathroom. Only negative was a little dust on the windowsills nothing to ruin a lovely comfy night sleep and lovely staff at check in too

Welcoming and friendly. Room comfortable. The hotel is about to close for refurbishment- and it is looking pretty tired right now. Very conveniently situated for the theatre.

Wouldn't stay again
The location is good but the hotel is very shabby and dirty. Our hotel room had black mould and the bath taps weren't working properly. We also didn't have any heating and there were no car parking spaces.

Sub standard hotel with good location
The hotel boasts a fantastic location, but regrettably falls short of expectations given its price point. Contrary to the enticing images displayed, there was a notable absence of afternoon tea options, with the caveat that such bookings must be made in advance via an external platform, such as Groupon. Furthermore, the car park operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with an additional inconvenience of no staff available at the front desk upon my arrival, resulting in a lengthy 30-minute wait just to check-in. Much better hotels on the vicinity!!!

This is a hotel with a real sense of place. I loved the fact that the rooms were named after Shakespeare characters. The hotel was old but with all the modern conveniences (a lift, ensuite facilities).

Very well appointed property ideally situated in centre of Stratford. Breakfast was very generous with good choice of cerals and cooked items. Staff were friendly, approachable and efficient.

Its actually 3 houses joined as 1. Ask for the rooms on the life/car park side for newer rooms with level floorings. Ask for the older side if you like to stay in a Tudor house.

Old building so expected it to not have all mod cons, but room was a little shabby and could do with updating.

A charming stay with an easy walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the waterfront. The room was quaint and comfortable with a large bathroom and great shower (inside a tub). The breakfast was a typical UK affair with a variety of breads, jams, fruit and hot foods served in a common room with close-together tables. The front rooms have low-beamed ceilings and lots of ambience.

2/10 Poor

Extremely disappointing
This hotel is desperately in need of updating. The first room we were offered had ripped net curtains, casement windows that would not close properly with no secondary glazing and was located in a separate block across the car park from the main hotel. The outside door to this block was open when we arrived and windows into the corridor were wide open - security was clearly not a priority. I wasn't comfortable staying in this room and the receptionist gave us unlabelled keys to another room in the main hotel. On opening the door to this room, I was extremely surprised to find that it was already occupied by another guest. We were offered another room, back on the second floor of the other block and had to accept this room as there were literally no other hotel rooms available in Stratford that night (and believe me, I looked). The sheets and duvet were clean, and that is the only positive thing I can say about it. Furniture covers were stained, walls were dirty, there were gaps between the wall and window frames, the spaces between the window and secondary glazing were filthy with dead insects, the soap and shower gel dispensers were empty. Bedside lamps did not work, bedside drawer would not stay closed. Parking was very limited on site. We left before breakfast. The receptionist we dealt with was not rude, but nor was she helpful or particularly polite. Overall very far from what we expected from a branded 4 star hotel.

Long in the tooth
Water temperature in shower went from scalding hot to ice cold. No way to get consistent temperature. AirCon was terribly inefficient and didn’t work consistently. Our room number and room was virtually unfindable as no directional signage had our room number. Overall a very poor experience for the price we paid.
