Wonderful Beach Destination! Good value!

Really enjoyed our stay! The hotel is closer to the airport and Liberia which really matters for excursions. If you are going to the national parks like Rincón, Tenorio etc you are much closer than if you stayed in Tamarindo. The resort was nice clean and located right on the beach..We only had the basic food package level and I thought the buffet food was pretty good. Other guests were sour on the food quality the best way I can describe it is good quality wedding catering. It is good but food mad is mass batches is also not quite restaurant quality. If you are picky about food you can upgrade and eat at the sit down oriental or Italian restaurants which were amazing! Overall really good value for the price.

They decided to do works at the pool with a pneumatic drill at 5.30am in the morning. They thought this was acceptable. The food and drinks were sub par but you get what you pay for - it was about 180 usd a night.

Well our time is over in Costa Rica and at the Occidental Papagayo. Time for my review We actually stayed in 2 rooms when we were there the standard room over looking well basically nothing lol on the 2nd floor. The room is very nice The bed is really comfortable And you gets Iots of pillows LMAO the bathroom is spacious enough. So before we arrived I emailed the resort and told them my wife has issues climbing stairs and its her 60th birthday so if we could get something on main level and our daughter is also coming with her own separate room could we get something close together. The property was located very near the beach. The plants, trees, and grounds were BEAUTIFUL. The resort needs updating; it is dated. The beds, all couches and cushioned seats, had dips, sunken spots, and the upholstery in several areas, including the premium lounge, was stained or dingy. The air conditioning was not working in the main dining/buffet. There were fans on floor, but the fans did very little to cool the area. The air conditioner in my room worked sporadically; I called multiple times for repair. The water in building one was off for over 5 hours one day. My room smelled like sulfur/sewage and the smell seemed to worsen each day. The food was horrible and lacked variety. There were beans and rice daily. The meats-- pork, chicken, and fish--were extremely poor quality and never looked appetizing or edible. The vegetables--cauliflower, carrots, broccoli-- were served everyday; they were undercooked and never seasoned. The desserts were inedible. Outside of the restaurants, drinks were served in thin paper cups that got flimsy immediately. The music played throughout the resort lacked diversity and variety. They started playing it early in the mornings, loud enough to be heard in the guestrooms. The club/disco was disappointing. There was karaoke every night. Nearly ALL of the selections were salsa. The pool table was in a corner by the entrance, there was too much traffic to play it comfortably. To top it off, staff was not hospitable at all.

This resort only had 3 restaurants and one buffet. The 3 restaurants are first come first serve for signing up. If it’s booked out before you go to reserve, then you only have one buffet to go to. The entire resort uses this one buffet so there is always a line to get in. Breakfast was horrible. They had no variety of choices each day it was the exact same servings for breakfast. If there was things you did not eat then you were going to be hungry. Each morning I hoped for bacon and out of the 6 days I stayed, there were none, just the same lousy choices every morning. There wasn’t much to do on the resort as far as fun. They held the same activities every night and it was never a time where they held anything different. The pools always looked cloudy like there wasn’t bleach used in the pools so we only went in the pool once out of the 6 days we stayed. The beach on the resort was nice until the raccoons came out. Overall if you’re looking for a nice view and nothing to do go there. If you’re looking for fun and good food do not go here.

Few food options, the air conditioning in the restaurants didn't work, for lunch or dinner it was hellishly hot, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, except the air conditioning was also faulty in the room, definitely not what I expected.

We had a great time at our stay this past week - the property was beautiful and overall a lovely place to stay. Well maintained property and a nice beach. It was easy to book excursions but it was difficult to get ahold of staff for other things. Overall I'd recommend this location for a beautiful and comfortable stay but there are a few things to keep in mind. The room was very nice but it didn't have any toiletries when we arrived other than the dispeners in the shower, toilet paper, and a few kleenex tissues left. Housekeeping took good care of the room when you gave them a good tip. We struggled to find people at the right times to book a dinner reservation and when we finally got our booking on the last night, my partners chicken and beef were extremely under cooked and they took them back to replace them but they never came back to us so we just had to leave. Overall I'd rate the food probably a 6.5/10. Some hit and miss but we still enjoyed ourselves.
