성 마굿간에서의 하루
성에서 머물고 싶어서 예약했어요. 방이 여러개인데 저희는 여행 3개월 전쯤에 예약했을 때 방이 하나밖에 안남아서 공용 화장실 공용 샤워인 2층 숙소로 했어요. 화장실 딸린 방을 예약하시는걸 추천합니다. 저희 머문 곳은 천장이 매우 낮았어요. 솔직히 여기는 숙박 보다는 저녁 식사가 메인인데 한국인 입맛에 막 잘 맞는다고 할수는 없지만 같이 식사하는 외국 분들이랑 대화하는 게 좋은 경험이었어요. 식사보다 이야기가 메인이라고 보시면 됩니다. 그나마 메뉴는 blue cod / beef cheek/ cheese cake를 추천 드려요! 또 아침은 무료 제공인데 정말 퀄리티가 좋았어요. 바로 옆 키친에서 만들어서 주는데 왠만한 식당보다 좋았습니다. 그래도 전체적으로 성 입장료나 다른 여행객들과 얘기할 수 있는 경험 등 생각하면 영어만 잘 하신다면 나쁘지 않을듯 해요.

Great place!
Just fantastic! Staff were great. The location perfect. Breakfast very tasty. The only bad part was there was a wedding and at 1230am all of the others staying in the stables showed up drunk and without thinking there were other guests. After 30 minutes of hearing all the stupid stuff they were talking about, I finally went out and gracefully told them there were other guests staying there. They finally shut up.

Einfache Zimmer, tolle Unterkunft
Einfache Unterkunft, saubere Gemeinschaftsbäder, tolles Frühstücksbuffet mit viel Auswahl. Der Eintritt ins Schloss ist inklusive, man kann auch ein Abendessen im Schloss hinzubuchen, welches ich sehr empfehlen kann.

Wat een geweldige plek om te overnachten
Een geweldige ervaring om in een kasteel te slapen. De kamer was fantastisch, smaakvol en sfeervol ingericht waar alles tot in detail klopt maar toch met het gemak van de huidige eisen. Onvoorstelbaar mooi uitzicht. Ook het kasteeldiner was tot in de puntjes verzorgd. Een sterrenrestaurant kan er niet aan tippen. Heel gezellig om met andere gasten te praten en ervaringen uit te wisselen. Ik wil het kasteel als overnachtingsplek zeker warm aanbevelen.

Lovely stay!
Loved staying here! Waking up with a view of the entire city of Dunedin was incredible. The stay included breakfast in the morning (which was delicious) as well as entry into the castle and gardens. In addition, the staff was incredible and even stayed late for us to check-in after a flight delay. Would highly recommend

We stayed in Room 26 and the views were some of the best we have encountered anywhere in the world. We even had a view from the loo! Staff were friendly and very helpful. The Barker family has done an excellent job restoring the Castle and providing employment in the area. We would definitely stay again.

Lodge consisted of rooms in converted stable or separate lodge. Our room had incredible views. Room was charming and we opted for the dinner at the castle which was super fun and excellent. The host is incredible and she makes the dining experience a joy and interesting. She gave a quick tour and her entertaining stories about the castle were fun! You also get free entry into the lovely castle in the morning to explore more and the gardens were beautiful. Breakfast in the stable was excellent

The stay in the stables is poor, even for a low-budget version of the castle. The rooms are very noisy, not only noises from the guests next door (even if they do it quietly) but also from the noisy staff who start preparing breakfast at just after 6:00 am. Lots of loud talking and the radio on. The breakfast itself is good, but the breakfast location (the stable) is cold, (coincidentally?) the heating is partly defective, especially when the stable doors open on both sides because guests also enter from another part to have breakfast in the stable. The showers are extremely old-fashioned and below any current standard of comfort. No decent space to hang your clothes and get dressed, which is desirable because the shower cabin is located in the public corridor with the other rooms. In addition, the shower cabin has to be shared by several hotel guests, just like the toilets: 4 for 6 rooms. Each one is too small and too limited to properly make a toilet there. Moreover, there was a cockroach walking around. The staff does their best but is partly inexperienced. In short, staying in the rooms and the stable is not worth the money and certainly does not offer the experience that the castle hotel pretends. Not recommended!

Beautiful Castle and Grounds
We stayed in the lodge on the castle grounds. We checked in around 6pm, so the castle was closed, but we were allowed to tour the grounds, which were beautiful. Our room was nice. We had a wonderful breakfast in the morning, with a nice cold buffet and our choice of a hot meal. We got to tour the house before the crowds came (two buses pulled up as we were leaving). It was a lovely stay.

Amazing experience!
This is a wonderful step back in time with a beautifully modernised bathroom. (Shower was incredible, plus floor was heated!!) We loved our stay, and found the dinner to be an entertaining and delicious experience. Highly recommend this for romantics and history buffs.

To stay in the grounds of a 'castle' was fabulous. Views from the room outstanding. Sitting on the deck awesome. Whole experience and the quality of the room fantastic. So all in quite brilliant. Highly recommend staying.

Unique and memorable stay
Amazing. We had en-suite queen rooms, which were clean, comfortable and beautifully and individually decorated. Tea and coffee maker and a small fridge were appreciated. The views were stunning and we loved sitting on the balcony listening to the birds. Breakfast was excellent. We spent a lovely morning wandering the gardens.

Wunderbare Lage - ein Erlebnis
Wir haben uns überzeugen lassen, einen Zimmer-Upgrade (gegen Aufpreis) anzunehmen und dies nicht bereut. Der Empfang war sehr herzlich. Unser Zimmer - mit nostalgischem Flair - war voll ausgestattet. Wir hatten einen famosen Rundumblick auf die darunter gelegene Bucht. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und man konnte auf seine eigenen Wünsche (ohne Aufpreis) etwas dazu bestellen. Der Garten ist traumhaft schön. Das Dinner (Extra) ist sehr zu empfehlen, um auch mit anderen Gästen ins Gespräch zu kommen. Die Speisen könnten aber etwas heißer serviert werden.

We had a lovely few days at Larnach Lodge. While the accommodation in the stables at first seemed quite basic it was all we needed and we were very comfortable. The setting with the gardens and the views was beautiful and so interesting. The included breakfast was great and I can highly recommend signing up for the 4 course dinner in the castle- it was incredible food and such a fun and memorable experience.

An outstanding location and facilities. some elements were superb, others due a refresh. Overall loved the experience and would wholeheartedly recommend. Dinner was delightful in the Castle dining room with lovely flavours. Service was "quirky" if a little slapdash which detracted from the chef's presentation. Castle tour and gardens were fascinsting and a great tribute to the owners and staff alike.
