Having driven past this Hotel many times it was a spur of the moment booking. However an unexpected hospital stay meant that after trying to reschedule, and this not being an option, it was decided to give our 2 night stay a go. The Hotel and surroundings were as good as anticipated, the 3 course evening meal and service faultless however the bed was to hard/uncomfortable so the stay was cut short.

Lovely peaceful place to stay

This is a wonderful property in a great position. The room I was allocated was lovely especially for me and my little dog. The staff on reception were great! The whole experience was wonderful. There was the choice of the beach near by or sit around the heated pool or sit in the peaceful gardens with a view of the sea. The only thing I would say is that I don’t eat huge meals and the restaurant only offered 2 or 3 courses in the evenings and wasn’t worth the money for me.

Nice enough

Great location, with easy access to a lovely sandy beach. Good family facilities - outdoor pool, indoor plunge pool, tennis courts, pitch and put, games room, etc. Nice breakfast. An evening meal was ok; nothing more. The hotel is just a bit tired in general and needs a bit of TLC.

Don’t ever change the Knoll House Hotel !

We loved being at Knoll House Hotel… it was like stepping back in time … such an interesting history and it was warmly welcoming. We loved the spa and outside pool and being near the sea for swimming . The staff were really helpful and friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. We had a room right at the back of the property which was very peaceful. I’ve heard that developers are knocking at the door but please don’t change anything about this Hotel. We love it just the way it is. Keep it for everyone.

Great location and value, but hotel very tired

Its the kind of place you would have expected to see The Trotters visit in Only Fools and Horses. You could see Delboy and Rodney propping up the ship cabin bar. The hotel opened in 1931 and dedicates a lot of wall space to Enid Blyton and Noddy. So be prepared for some very retro decoration. All of which adds to the hotel's character. Over hearing other guests say it's listed, this explains a lot about the lack of upkeep and real maintenance. All staff were friendly ans helpful. Dinner was ok, we much preferred our meal at The Pig down the road. Breakfast was great, with plenty of choice. Room was good value. But bed, chairs and furniture and door, all tired. You could see a good amount of light at both the top and botyom if the door. Whilst the hotel complex was prettu quiet, the walls were thin and we were awoken each morning around 6am by other guests dogs, which seemed to set off each other in a barking chorus rather than a bird one. The amount of dogs was actually the most off putting thing about the hotel. Even one of us as a dog lover found it too much. Good facilities with the games room, cinena room and library where there are lots of books and board games. We poked our head in the spa building but again it looked very dated and tired qnd we opted out. The best part about the hotel is its location so close to the beach. But beware whilst the naturist beach didnt worry us, the fact that the area seemed to be used for some unsavoury and non family activities did.

weekend stay

Our stay was lovely. Room, food and staff could not be faulted. I have a garlic intolerance and the chefs were helpful and supplied alternatives, that were delicious. Hope to return in the future. Big thanks to everyone.

Wonderful views from our room!

Lovely hotel, it has a nostalgic feel which we absolutely love, the spa pool edge could be cleaner, but the facilities were fine. Lovely room number 44 stunning view, dinner was excellent well presented and tasty.

Lovely hotel, stylish mid-20th century look on the outside, room inside very up to date, with under-floor heating, walk-in shower, very comfortable bed. All very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good location, just a short walk from the coast path and beach. Meals in the restaurant were excellent and reasonably priced.

5* location - disappointing hotel.

I had high expectations of staying here. I've always wanted to for 30+ years and splashed out for a big birthday. I was a little disappointed. The room was very basic. Paper thin walls & doors. Bedroom doors didn't fully close as wardrobe in hallway blocked it. We were above the games room and went to sleep to the sound of table tennis and air hockey and woke up to the sound of kids playing on the piano. Tv had no remote and not enough tea cups for our party of 3. Pillows were flat and not fluffy. Check-in was quick and efficient but not overly informative and we used checkout key box as queue was large and the 2nd member behind counter wasn't engaging with customers. Parking was difficult. Breakfast/bar staff were friendly. The beer taps were out of order. The location was amazing. Loved the view from the breakfast room, we saw deer on the grounds on our morning walk to the beach.

Don’t bother, Half Board is not HB for families!

We booked Half Board as a family (2+2) kids are aged 10 & 8. Turned up to the hotel and they said that although we booked half board only adults get the package, for the kids you have to pay extra. Checked all booking confirmation and there’s no mention of that in the booking process or small print or any confirmation. To double check I spoke with the agents at hotels.com who also confirmed there’s no mention of it there either… they also believe this to be unfair. False advertising and blatant lying. Further to that, there’s a mandatory service charge for anything you charge to your room including drinks at the bar and food in the restaurant. No mention of this when you order and you don’t sign / get a receipt when charging to your room either. Just another underhanded tactic to money grab from unsuspecting guests. Hotel is alright, it’s tired, needs some investment but it’s functional. Things to note, in the garden suite there are very few plug sockets in the bedroom, TV is 21” (tiny) both nonissue for us but for kids if they play on devices want to watch some telly then this will be difficult. Also no WiFi in this room either. Would is at here again, yes, but only if someone else was paying… for the additional cost of the kids meal £43 we could have easily paid for a better quality of hotel in the local area. We do a lot of staycations is this area as we are locals in Bournemouth, would say even a Britannia hotel is better value for money and that’s something!

A hotel full of charm and warmth.

A really atmospheric hotel in an amazing location. Full of character and charm. I would really wish it never changes. Wholesome personality of more than just a hotel. Wood panel bar, reading room, movie theatre, games room, open log fire. Very comfortable rooms, warm and very updated bathrooms. Lovely attentive staff. A spa with indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzzi plus two saunas. Fantastic views over the ocean and countryside with abundant deer wandering around. Really is a slice of England from the past. Full of character. I recommend it to all.
