Fritzelโs European Jazz Pub calls itself the home of New Orleans traditional jazz and offers a casual and intimate space for enjoying the music that put NOLA on the map. Itโs located in a historic building dating to the 19th century and has become known as the space to catch traditional New Orleans jazz.
From its great menu of food to craft cocktails, thereโs a lot to enjoy here. If you get lucky, you might even catch a surprise when a major name in jazz just happens to stop by to catch a show or even hop up on stage for an impromptu performance.

Fritzelโs European Jazz Club is situated in a building dating to 1831 and exudes history in its atmosphere alone, but it was founded in 1969 by Gunter โDutchโ Seutter and has been a staple ever since. It may be roughshod with bench seating and a classic dive-bar feel, but thatโs a big part of its charm.
Donโt be fooled by the old-school, dishevelled appearance. This is a sophisticated home of jazz on Bourbon Street. They serve up local Abita ale, spirits, and a few craft cocktails, and everything except the jazz takes a back-to-basics, no-nonsense approach.
Keep some cash on hand when you come here, as depending on the night and which artists are performing, there may be a small cover charge to get in. It is a bar, so it isnโt family-friendly but those at least age 18 can enter so long as they are accompanied by a parent.
If you want a real old-school experience, upstairs there is a speakeasy called Potions that is operated separately. Youโll need to obtain a password from a local Voodoo shop to get up there, and upon delivery of the password, the Fritzelโs hostess will let you up.
