One of the things they tell you when you check in is that music will be played until late (midnight) because it’s a “party hostel” which is fair enough.
What they don’t tell you is that there’s apt to be an insular little clique of guests—long-term? ex-pat employees?—who are 90% Brits (the place is English owned) and who domineer the place at all hours, with sing-alongs (really, shout-alongs), and loud revelry. Was awakened at 4am twice by LOUD shouting and yelling and splashing in the pool.
If this sort of thing is your cuppa, you’ve got the right place. If you enjoy a nice party but also appreciate being offered consideration and respect and seeing it shown to neighbors (it is certain this noise can also be heard by other hotels or residences nearby, it’s a narrow alleyway), you might not find that. Having stayed in “party hostels” all over the world, rules still usually apply and that’s the sort of behavior that should get shut down fast and get the offenders kicked out. Here, it’s not only tolerated, it seems sort of encouraged.
All that aside, the local staff here were amazing and very helpful. The rooms are clean, the bars and restaurants on premises are lovely, and it’s a great location with lots of other shops and services nearby.
Hey, you can’t control who your guests are, so I don’t want to blame them, but nobody was bothering to answer for the madness or apologize, so I guess dubbing yourself “a party hostel” kind of covers your bases.
