I am not sure where to start, as there were many things that frustrated us during our stay at Canto del Sol. My husband and I chose to stay at Canto del Sol because I had stayed at this same hotel for a month back in 2015. My experience at that time was very positive, so we decided to return. First of all, the hotel building has not been updated since 2015. Everything looks old and run-down, but that was not the main problem. The hotel was severely understaffed. We could not even get clean towels or toilet paper during the week of December 30 to January 3. The restaurant lacked variety in its food offerings. For example, there was no cheese or bananas for breakfast! When we asked, we were told they only had what was available on the buffet. On some days, the tide was high, so during our 16-day stay at the hotel, no chairs from the hotel were allowed on the beach! We had to rent chairs from vendors or stand and walk the entire day on the beach. When we asked security guards if we could take chairs from the hotel to the beach, we were told it was not possible. Meanwhile, all the other hotels had their chairs out on the beach. Guests at Canto del Sol had no such privilege and were left renting chairs from beach vendors. What a shame! During a trip to Las Ánimas Island, we noticed that even there—where the tide was higher—restaurants still provided chairs on the beach, occasionally allowing the water to touch them. Nice weekend stay, family of 6 adults
We stayed for 4 days and it was nice, we never struggled to find a place to sunbathe, never took too long to find a table at the buffets, and we liked the food and the drinks. The only inconvenience is the check in and check out process, took a lot of time and was a very cumbersome.

Hotel grande, modesto, cómodo no caro.
Es un hotel con bastante tiempo, pero las instalaciones se encuentran en buenas condiciones y limpias. El bufete está decente pero me gustaría que agregaran más salsas picantes, quizás en las fechas que yo fui, no había muchas porque había bastantes extranjeros y por lo regular ellos no comen picante. La habitaciones son amplias y cómodas, sólo que me agradaría que las almohadas fueran más grandes y que eliminaran las que tienen funda como de poliéster, ya que son muy calientes. El Hotel es bastante grande y sus instalaciones son muy agradables, si deseas más privacidad te recomiendo el área Luxury que es muy cómoda y más privada. Las bebidas están decentes y yo no bebo alcohol; entonces no puedo evaluar la calidad de las bebidas alcohólicas. Destaco la atención del personal, ya que son muy amables y siempre están dispuestos a ayudarte. Lo único que no me gustó es que te cobran el Estacionamiento , pero 75 pesos por día no es mucho. Si regresaría porque es buena la calidad y precio que pagas.

I liked this hotel, the beach was great and we even got served drinks down there. We didn’t do much of the main pool because it’s quite busy but they had a lot of water activities for kids. The pool in the mountain section was nice and quiet and we loved that there was a bar at it. The rooms were nice and clean the only thing that bothered us was the bed was on wheels, meaning it kept rolling away from the wall while we slept. Servers were nice and spoke pretty good English. The food was really good, the only complaint I have is that there wasn’t a lot of selection. When I found what I liked I enjoyed it I just wish there was chips and guacamole. Very sad they didn’t have guacamole lol. This is a very family friendly hotel, coming with a group of friends ages ranging for 21-23 we wish the bars were open later or more adult things to do maybe. If you’re going with your family then this place is great!

Pros: very friendly staff, good food and drinks with at least 1 restaurant almost always open during the day. Good location to walk downtown (10peso bus, ~100peso taxi). Pools, fancy restaurants (only one fancy meal per 2 nights, other night go to buffet which is also good) - order all your fancy meals on first day or the spots might fill up. Room and bedding was clean, saw no bugs or anything gross even in the mountain suites(cheaper side) Mid- no map of resort means a lot of guessing and figuring it out. Could easily miss areas if you dont explore. Being water bottle or prepare to buy one, they only give you one when you get there and no easy access to drinking water at night. Beach is very public - you will constantly asked to buy trinkets. Not a ton of beach chairs available mid-day. Cons: not much literature on the difference between rooms, will spend a lil extra for the nicer rooms if I visited again. The mountain suites are much older and feel a bit ‘forgotten’ the smoke alarm in the hallway beeped all week, there was a plate of biscuits sitting in a common area for 5 days. They forgot towels for us one day and it took about an hour for room service to being them. Walking from the mountain suite to the main area felt like going from a 2/5 to a 4/5 star resort. Nice to know: cross the bridge at the airport for a much cheaper taxi. Cost 250p from airport and only 125 from hotel back at end of trip (aka should have bargained but didnt know better when we landed)

Front desk check in needs better English speaking people had to use the manger Chris to get a room on ground floor. The food in the buffet needs improvement, same offerings daily. A la carte restaurants are good. The pool staff is great! Cheers to Monica, Andres, Noami.

The staff were amazing and the resort on the main side was very nice and clean. However the quality of the room was horrible, I was put in an old time share room that had not been maintained. The balcony was covered in pigeon poop along with the chairs out there. The fridge didn't work the lamps were not working, the toilet ran the faucet leaked. The AC struggled to work and made a load noise. The bed was on wheels without locks so with the pillows against the concrete headboard when leaning on them the bed rolled back some and the pillows fell into the abbess under the concrete. The control for the AC was not a thermostat but a knob. I booked through Expedia and others who booked through similar sites had modern upgraded rooms on the main resort a few steps down to the food and entertainment, while I was tucked into the corner on the old side. There was also a fire and I could see the fire hoses in the hall by my room and was not relocated. For a resort there is an expectation of high quality food the food was average at best. Had to walk to the other side across the street to get to the side that had the food. Again the staff was awesome the resort common area very clean and the bar had incredible service. The best thing about the the resort was the service staff.
