Unfortunately I suffer from severe migraines and had an attack on my way to Newport. We arrived an hour or so early, and I explained to the blond, heavy-set woman at the desk that I was having a bad migraine and was hoping to be able to lay down for an hour or so to try to feel better. My husband said that I was white as a ghost, so it was quite obvious that I was not feeling well at all. She confirmed that our room was ready (It was a Sunday) but she said I’d have to pay $25 extra for her to check me in. There was absolutely no compassion for me, no apology that it was out of her hands, no smile, nothing. I was very disappointed in her response and said I’d wait. At exactly 3:00, I went back to the desk and she checked me in. No acknowledgment of how I was feeling, just all business and not an ounce of pleasantry or friendliness.
However, when we went down for dinner and there was a jazz band playing, the hostess was overly concerned, went out of her way to sit us away from the band in another room that was quieter. Our waiter, John, was also very pleasant.
One suggestion is to do something about the base of the platform bed extending well beyond the mattress. My husband and I both went home with bruised shins from banging into it numerous times!!
