Nanaimo bars are named after a city in British Columbia and are a local Toronto staple, with three layers of wafers, nuts, coconut, custard, and chocolate ganache. The earliest known version of this confection dates to a 1953 cookbook, and it has also been known as a London fog bar, Mabel's squares, chocolate squares, and chocolate slices.
