A decent business hotel in a very crowded, less-than-clean part of central Madrid. Staff were cordial in a distant sort of way; our room was clean but very small. We had just enough space to walk around in after opening two suitcases. If you like big crowds, dirty streets, and theaters, this area is for you (think Broadway in NYC). However, if you are still unsure of where to stay in Madrid and prefer to wake up in cleaner, more spacious streets, I would look for a hotel near the Prado Museum or the more upscale Salamanca District, though hotels would be more expensive in these two locations. The Gran Via, Prado Museum, and the Salamanca are all connected and are not very far from one another. We walked from the shopping district of Salamanca to the Gran Via one night, and it took us 20 minutes.
