The basics were good

The hotel got the basics right. I booked this hotel because of the pool. Which on both days was shut. The rooms were clean and well kept. Food was aimed for a 5 star palte, but i would give it 3. Beautiful gardens and very friendly and helpful staff.

Sorry but would not stay again

Nice Friendy staff and fellow guests. Asked for a few things to be put right such as the right sized coffee cups for the coffee machine. All these requests were rectified straight away. Very suprised and disappointed to be told that our room was not entitled for a bed make up,change of towels or general clean unless we were staying for 4 nights or more (we were staying for 2). Hotel was clean but smelt a bit of dogs. Seemed to be more dog friendly than child friendly. No mattress was initially supplied for cot.

They tried, and sometimes failed.

Here’s the thing, this is an absolutely beautiful establishment. Everything about it is gorgeous and you feel like you are in Bridgerton. But the weekend I spent there was overshadowed by the fact that I am fairly certain half the staff were new to the job, not inly to this establishment, but to hospitality. I don’t know which one of them were the manager, but I hope they are aware they are doing a horrible job. The staff were disorganised, and they were absolutely horrible trained. It was constantly up to the guest to point out things that the staff should notice. If you, whatever job you have, walk past trash or dishes/glass, take them with you! Check that everything in the room works. When you walk through the buffet, check if anything is empty and refill it. And for heaven’s sake, if something is delayed, let the guests now. Everyone was really polite, very nice, as people they were amazing. And they did try, it just felt like they had no idea what to do most of the time and was just milling around until someone pointed out stuff to them. Or you couldn’t find anyone at all, which when I assume they had a staff meeting doing rock, paper, scissors to figure out who had which job. But this can luckily be fixed and I hope it will, because it’s way to pretty of a place to be treated like that.

The lack of maintenance is everywhere!

We stay in this hotel a couple of times a year en route to Poole, each time we see no maintenance whatsoever. Everywhere is tatty, the shower in room 20 doesn’t work, the room was roasting hot, and there are 2 outside lights on all night directly above the 2 windows. We had to stuff towels along the curtain pole to try and block it out. The furniture is very cheap tatty pine. The bed and sheets were very comfy though, I’ll give good marks for that. The bedside light doesn’t work. No headboard. We couldn’t complain as it was 11pm when we got to the room, and we left before 6am. No toiletries in the room at all. This hotel should be stunning, but I’d be so disappointed if I’d booked a nice break, every footstep creaks and doors bang!! Sorry but we shall find somewhere else from now on!

Unpleasantly surprised

"Single beds" turned out to be a sofa bed and a space saving temporary frame with mattress. Tap for shower was broken. It took speaking to three members of staff to get cooked breakfast premium refunded as it was not needed. What was surprising and quite shocking was that the staff seemed disinterested with resolving the situation. It's a shame as the building and grounds are really quite impressive.

Disappointed

Great potential but turned into an awful night stay The window only opened about 10 inches and there was no breeze the room can barely fit a double bed in but they’ve squeezed a toilet and a dirty shower. (Sink is randomly in the bedroom) can barely walk around the bed. It was SO HOT we couldn’t sleep staff said nothing can be done don’t have any fans. They need to invest in better amenities as quite frankly not possible to sleep in that condition. The bathroom door fell apart in my hands it was just a very disappointing room. The hotel itself was lovely. It’s a shame the bar staff was never at the bar.

Needs a re

Feels tired and in need of a refresh. Old fridges and spare beds/mattresses sitting in corridors when they should be stored away. They host weddings which I feel like they should share with you if one is booked during your stay as it’s incredibly loud. Staff very friendly.

We had a lovely stay at Bartley lodge. Beautiful manor house on lovely grounds. Good value and good size family rooms. We loved that the pool had long opening hours. We had dinner onsite one night which was delicious and kids menu too.

Not Good. Nobody on Reception on arrival. We waited 15minutes until someone turned up. We had Sandwiches and Drinks in The Garden. Cutlery and Condiments not offered. When we received them both the salt and pepper were empty. The table wasn’t cleared for 2 Hours. I checked in on line but that was a complete waste of time! The Receptionist asked me all the details again. The Manager didn’t acknowledge us and all of the staff needed training as there didn’t seem to have any Customer Service Skills. The Restaurant Food was good and one waitress stood out and had excellent social skill. I think her name was Ria. Very uncomfortable beds.

Dissapointed

I was a little dissapointed with our stay. We booked this place as we were visiting peppa pig world but wanted somewhere a little nicer to stay than the local holiday inn. Upon arrival we were informed there would be no house keeping during our stay, this meant we'd ran out of tea bags on the first morning and both the bins were overflowing as we were staying with out 3 year old. We had no soap, shower gel or shampoo in our room, i did try to ask at the front desk but gave up. We had an issue with our bath on the first night, the plug wouldnt release to drain the water. We had to get staff up to the room to remove the plug and the following day they provided a new plug but it was too large to fit in the hole so we couldnt fill the bath up the next time. We had dinner in the hotel restaruant on our first night where the service was poor. We had booked a table but they didnt have a record of it. I order ateak rare and it was more medium/well. We ordered a round a drinks with one of the staff and after 15 minutes had to reporder as there was 'no record on the till' Our room was also over the washing machines so we were woken up fairly early to thrumming of the washing machines which was very loud in the room. All of this is a shame as the hotel and gardens are very beatiful and would otherwise make for a lovely stay.

I stayed at Bartley Lodge Hotel for four nights over my birthday weekend, and while the location and atmosphere were beautiful, several issues left us disappointed. Starting with the positives: the architecture of the hotel is absolutely stunning, and the interior design is just as charming. The location is fantastic—perfect for exploring nearby national parks and lovely local pubs, especially if you have children or a dog with you. A particular highlight was the dinner at the hotel restaurant—it was genuinely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. However, there were quite a few negatives during our stay. Upon check-in, I was informed it would cost £60 for my dog to stay, which felt very steep. We also forgot our toothbrushes and toothpaste and waited at reception for 26 minutes around 10 p.m. to ask for some, but no one ever showed up. Breakfast was another letdown—it cost nearly £17 per person, and unfortunately, the quality didn’t match the price. The buffet condiments were frequently empty, and we had to keep asking staff to replenish basic items. Speaking of staff, it was often difficult to get through to reception via phone, and on one of the days, there was no water in the room to shower or wash. Pleasant stay

We went to check in at 3pm but the room was not ready until 3.20pm. No dog welcome pack on arrival but after we asked they did provide it. Bed really comfortable, very quiet at night which was lovely. Breakfast was cold but it was tasty. Swimming pool lovely and warm but could do with an update. Lovely grounds and great area. Close to everything we wanted.

A relaxing short stay

Nice old style building with themed decoration and preserved older features. The swimming pool was clean and ideal temperature. However, probably due to the size and age of the property the water pressure in the room was very low (for shower, basin and toilet). We knew it was a small (snug) room when we booked but it was adequate for our 3 night stay.

Average hotel with room for lots of improvements

This was just an average stay which is a shame as it looks like such a lovely hotel. Upon arrival we had to wait a long time to check in as the receptionist was also the person serving at the bar in a different room. Arrival drinks were disappointing as the barrel needed to be changed but staff had no time to do this. The room was boiling hot even with the window wide open. No controller or way or turning on the air con. Room was very noisy at 5am and sounded like we were right above a generator which woke the whole family who couldn’t then go back to sleep. Very disappointed.

Nice relaxing break.

Nice relaxing break, the hote pool was very good it could do with a bit of a spruce up but was clean and tidy whilst we were there.
