It's a step up from a hostel. For 145 CHF a night (reservation made 2 1/2 months prior to arrival, standard room, no breakfast), I was expecting better.
The room was just too small. No closet. No tea kettle. No mini fridge. No desk. No phone to call reception. No space. No bathroom amenities (only hand soap and hair/body wash combo in shower). For a 4-night stay, I think it's normal to take stuff out of your suitcase, but there's just nowhere to put it.
The breakfast was 20 CHF, and not worth it. No hot items. Not even a toaster. Breakfast is served in the lobby. Although the seating and tables are fine for having a drink or getting together with colleagues, they aren't conducive to having a meal.
The personnel are very kind and helpful, but the aspects I found troublesome aren't things they can improve. It's just the way the hotel is. So I will be staying somewhere else on my next visit to Basel.
