I stayed at Hugo for 6 days during my business trip to nyc. My hotel rule for this kind of trip is simple.
Good sleep and shower.
My first impression : RUDE
Upon booking, the hotel processed my credit card details. I misunderstood it as an advanced payment (I chose to pay at the hotel) so I made an inquiry by e-mail. The response I got was very unpleasant. They said โI should check the Hotels.com terms.โ Hm.. Really?
Rule 1 : Good Sleep
- Heater problem: It was freezing in NYC lately. After work, returning to hotel, all I wanted was just to be warm. However, the heater is too loud you canโt hear the TV. You donโt want to have the heater on when you go to bed because itโs just too loud!
- Privacy : If you turn that heater off, you can hear literally everything from the next door.
- Noise : The hotel may be well known for the roof top but you need to bare the noise from the party crowds.
Rule 2 : Good shower
For one time, I didnโt have water in the morning. It took 10~15 minutes to have it back but I didnโt get any notice from them that the water is back, I had to check by myself. That day when I returned to hotel I found the toilet filled with sewage/dirty water.
About the shower, it only has one shower head attached to ceiling so that you need to actually get into the shower to adjust the water temperature.
-In a secluded area: Right next to the UPS garage.
-The hotel is under construction : You can make eye contact with the workers when you open the shades.

Horrible
Water wasnโt running in the morning for an hour on the second and the third day of my stay. The toilet didnโt work, either, of course. Horrible experience.
They never clean the floor. I stayed for one week and I see the dust everyday. They only make the bed and empty the waste basket. They never changed the bathrobe I wore everyday for one week.
Shower didnโt drain, maintenance attempted to fix but had to plunge several times and the shower floor filled with black water. In that same room the air conditioner was not working and the temperature would not rise above 78 degrees with was extremely uncomfortable. Maintenance attempted to fix several times with no success including spraying a chemical coolant which filled the room and we had to open the doors and window to let out the strong chemical fumes. While I appreciated maintenance who was really apologetic for the experience and tried so hard to fix everything the front desk did not seem to be empathetic. I was initially told that they could not move me into a different room but after requesting moving to a sister property or getting a refund so that I could find a new hotel they only then were somehow able to find a new room for me.

The location was great and super convenient. Close to my work and to subway lines. Was also a quick walk away from the waterfront. The hotel was very clean and well maintained with friendly staff.
The bedding was not as comfortable as my other stays in NY. It was not breathable and my sleep was impacted. I was also in a room right by the elevators and everytime the elevator went up or down, it made a weird sound through the walls which made it hard for me to fall asleep.

The hotel was way nicer than we expected. The views of the Hudson from our room and going to either of the two rooftop bars was an absolute treat !!!! Highly highly recommend !!

Toppenhotell i bra omrรฅde
Jรคttebra hotell i lugnt omrรฅde. Frรคscht rum, rymligt med utsikt รถver Hudsonfloden. Gratis kaffe i cafรฉet och mycket trevlig personal. Lite udda med stรคdning sent pรฅ eftermiddagen men annars toppen. Nรคra bรฅde buss/subway samt massor av trevliga restauranger 5 min gรฅng bort.

Hotel Hugo Stay
Upon checking in the staff was very friendly and the check in process was seamless however the amenities and bathroom was not as nice as pictured. The water pressure in our shower head was awful. The nozzles were so gross they were not coming out straight.
