Poor check in timing
Two issues with my stay at Marriott Syracuse: the first is that I phoned the hotel for early check-in and they told me to arrive in 30 minutes. I arrived in 40 minutes and had to wait an additional 45 minutes for my room - even later than 4:00pm advertised check in. The other issue was so strange … a very bright light in the room flashed every hour all night. It was noiseless but bright enough to see through closed eyelids. Not outside. Reported this upon checkout.

Room was noisy-banging doors, barking dog nearby, could hear thumping of music from event above (it stopped on time, thankfully). Felt gloomy and got a dark room with little views.

When I arrived late because of my flight being delayed I was dropped off by an Uber at 1:15 AM with my bag. I rang the outside doorbell to get in and no one responded. I knocked and tried calling the number on the valet stand but still got nothing. I was quite scared as a solo female standing outside in the middle of the night and no one around. Finally someone from the front desk saw me and came and let me in. He was very non chalant, said the buzzer was broken, didn’t offer to carry my bag up the steps and didn’t seem to care when I told him I was getting very panicked outside. It wasn't a very good way to start a trip that was very stressful to begin with to see my very ill father,

Perfect stop along the journey
We travel between Boston and Toronto often and need to stay over one night at the midway point. Many hotels are hit and miss but this one was perfect for our family. Historic charm, cleanliness, great service and friendly staff and all at a reasonable price. And its downtown - so a great opportunity to check out the beautiful city of Syracuse.

The property itself was fine. My room had 2 broken lamps, toilet paper holder fell off, sticky surfaces, knock on my door @ 855am w/no announcement then someone entering my room. I addressed these issues with the MOD and hopefully they will get taken care of.

Name says Marriott but it's not like a Marriott
I have never stayed at a Marriott that didn't have a pool and didn't have a taxi stand. Not only did it not have a taxi stand but when you ask the manager to call you a taxi, he sends a text message and when they never reply after over 30 minutes, he doesn't do anything except tell you to take a bus but if you go to the Valet manager he gets on his cell phone, gets through right away and a taxi is there in a few minutes. Bizarre. I have never seen a Marriott more understaffed. Only one person working at the front desk. To get your car from Valet you have to text (there is no other option for some bizarre reason) and when I did so, car was not ready after 20 minutes and I had to pay for the Valet at the Valet, it was not charged to the room which I have never seen before at a Marriott before, it's as if, this isn't a real Marriott.

The parking garage is a block away from the hotel and adjacent to new construction and the transit center. Due to road closures for the construction project, vehicle and pedestrian traffic are limited. At times I didn't feel safe accessing the garage. Stay alert of your surroundings.

2/10 Poor

Horrible and unforgivable . I pre-paid for a large room with sofa bed on their club floor, but was given the smallest room in the building and not on a club floor. When I asked to be moved to the correct room, they had me prove that I had booked the bigger room. Instead of looking at their computer screen to see that they were wrong they made me pull up my reservation on my phone and show it to them! This is the height of unacceptable service. After that, the staff had the gall to move me to the exact same room as the one I had previously been in. They are either incredibly shady or not capable to do the job they were hired for. We are talking about a $270 a night difference. When I went back down to find out why they put me in the wrong room for the second time I found one front desk person that saw that I had received the wrong room and terrible service. He tried to correct everything but then his manager, Christina, came over and royally messed everything up. I was supposed to check out the following night but the next morning I received a phone call asking me why I had not checked out already. When I explained that I had reconfirmed the extra night with the kind front desk clerk, then with Christina, the person on the phone once again, acted very shady And insinuated that I was lying. I went down to the front desk to sort it out, and Christina told me that I was not telling the truth. I told her to review the video while I waited. I will never return.

Historic and hospitable
It is a beautiful and historic building. Morning coffee service needs to be more readily available, that is definitely a drawback to the location, but the pub spot for a quick bite is great. Rooms are great and updated.
